This IS NOT a player bashing post. Just a viewpoint. From 1975 to 1995 if drug testing existed in professional pool, I've heard from current pro players that maybe 5% of the winners would have been allowed to cash in. Fact or fiction? What about now?

That could be possibly true if Alcohol is included as a drug......but I think your viewpoint is way off-base. No statistics to hold your views.....and, yes, I think you are bashing the players....

In long gambling sessions I'd think you'd find your chemical assistance. In tournaments I doubt it's the same ratio.

Of all the performers I saw at the last 2 US Opens I doubt many were on anything stronger than coffee.

In 1975 the majority of the current PRO players (30 years old) were maybe 2 years old. In 1995 they would only be 22 years old and maybe have played PRO pool for 2 or 3 years.

Do pool players use drugs to sustain a long match, grinding out a money match? I'm sure we know there are drugs available for the low life abusers.

Are Pro pool players dumb enough to abuse drugs in a tournament? I doubt it very seriously.

I've been going to Pro events since the very late 70s and have only SEEN two players (and they are still around) that abused any type of drug (including Booze)..

IMO from what I have witnessed, the pro players are out to win, buy playing at the sharpest level possible. Drugs would only deminsh this level.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of short stops or what some would call semi-pro level players, take breaks and go outside and take a toke or few. But, I have to admit, it just made them play the same, they just didn't care as much if they lost.

Didn't care to witness any of this, IMO one of the reasons that pool is un-safe. You can't trust drunks and dopers. They just don't know what being responsible is about when they are on drugs.

I have to agree somewhat with many of the answers here. I agree with Kato (the man) cuz i have been to 15 straight U.S. OPENS And several large other tournaments ie: the joss tournaments held at Turning Stone Casino and i cannot remember ever seeing any players flying high on anything other than coffee of coca Cola. And yes i think you may be bashing the players...I am not ignorant enough to think it does not go on. just that i have never seen it at the tournament site...............................mike
