Does anyone know the pocket sizes of the better brand tables?

I've found 5" pockets to be quite common.

4 9/16" corners are very common.
Anything more than that is too generous.

Sorry, I don't understand? You should be able to dictate what size you want them to be. Double shimmed or even triple.

We have an inexpensive 8 ft with 4 1/2. I was told that 4 3/4 was standard. 5' pockets seem like bread baskets.
What size pockets are most tournaments played on?

The World Pool-Billiard Association lists standards for competition (apparently the BCA is too timid /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

BCA - POCKET OPENINGS & MEASUREMENTS (Cloth covered rails):
Pocket openings are measured from tip to tip of the opposing cushion noses where direction changes into the pocket. This is called the mouth.
Corner Pocket: Mouth Between 4 7/8" minimum to 5 1/8" maximum
Side Pocket: Mouth Between 5 3/8" minimum to 5 5/8" maximum
Talk about craters - we're talking Draino city here. Not much rail left after opening up for the side buckets!

4 and 7/8"?
The hell. You can hit the number 3 diamond on a rail shot and still make it. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif
