By Denise J. Allen

Twas the night before Christmas, And all through the house,
The Malamutes were angelic, Not even one grouse
The dogs were all snuggled, Their nose in their tum
While dreams of goodies to be gotten,
When Santa Paws would come

And then the dream deepened, and turned rather scary
A storm had grounded Santa,
This year’s Christmas would not be so merry
The weather was so severe,
Even Rudolph’s nose couldn’t pierce the fog

Then came the idea-What Santa needed was a big sled dog
Who best for these conditions?-they’ll give it all they’ve got
And when it comes to finding the way
A better sniffer there is not.

The mals responded quickly, They came from far and near
They’d guide Santa’s sleigh, & deliver Christmas cheer
Their mission was accomplished
Despite of the storm of that December
The malamutes were heroes & humans would always remember
The fairy tales, the history books
All would surely say Christmas was in peril-
But sled dogs saved the day
The sound of bells, louder, LOUDER!
The dogs awoke with a start
And Santa was there thanking them,
For their courage and their heart

Was it a dream or was it real? The dogs would never know.
But fond memories would fill their heads,
As they frolicked in the snow
The mals were so very happy
For their stockings were so very full
And they could be proud of their heritage,
For they were born to pull.

One more thought before it is too late,
But before I turn out the light,
Merry Christmas my friends, to you and yours
And to all a very good night!
