It seems to me that the south would not elect a president if he/she is from the north... what gives is the south still pissed at the north about the Civil war? Can someone name me the last president to come out of a northern state?

Kennedy

before that, F. Roosevelt.

Does not bode well for Kerry does it?

Actually I think it's the Northeast that Southerners don't trust.

As a general rule, not trying to stereotype anyone here, southerners tend to be more conservative and the northerners a bit more liberal. For years, the northern political leader was Teddy while in the south, we stuck with Jesse. Granted these two are the extremes for their political philosophy, but it does speak to the political attitudes of the different regions. Southerners aren't anti Northern as much as they are anti Liberal. Given a good conservative candidate, and it won't matter where he/she is from, they will find support in the south. John Edwards is saying he can carry the south, but most of the people I know around here would support GWB against Edwards, and Edwards is our Senator. It's political philosophy more than geography.
