There is a Pool hall here that is trying to start a summer league.
Normally they only have winter league.
I am talking about BCA. APA runs year round.
For this Summer league they want to try a player daft.
First there will be captains chosen that are in
the mid skill level range and a pool of remaining players.
Then like any other daft the captains will pick
their teams one player at a time.
I have never seen a league try this before but it sounds like fun.
For years I have played with the same guys on pretty
much the same teams and of course I still will play
with them in the fall.
Now it looks like I will get to play on the same team
as people I have never played with before.
I guess it is similar to a blind draw tournament
only its for a whole season.
Oh ya, Also,
The season will only determine the seeding for the final tournament.
The only way to get a prize is if you finish in the top four of the tournament.

To me it sound like fun and a nice change.
I was just wondering if anybody has experienced
something similar to this and how it went.
Thanks,
Chris

It sounds silly, foolish, mad, insane, frivolously gay...at least that was what the dictionary had as meanings for "daft"
AND sounds like fun, a great way to get to know more of you league's players

Never seen it done but it sounds like a fun idea.

Let us know how it works out.

I think it's silly. Daft, if you will.

Actually, it's an interesting idea, unless as you say, you get picked last.

I think there's a good chance you'll end up with a lot of the same teams. I know if I were a captain I would pick the guys I have on my team right now, regardless of skill. For me league wouldn't be any fun unless I was on a team with my friends.

The only problem I could see is if you get on a team with somebody you despise. Of course you might find out they're not so bad after all. /ccboard/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I thought of that also but there is only 1 maybe 2
people who I don't think I would want to shoot with.
But like you said I may see them differently after this.

I agree that could happen but I don't think it will.
This is an in-house league and most of us get along pretty well
so I think (and hope) the teams will get mixed up pretty well.
If they don't then I think they will come up with a different plan next year.

A close friend of mine did this except with basketball, in a 5 on 5 full court league. She has played with this league for five years, has ended up every year with one person or so that she has played with before and now the whole league is "just a like a big sorority." Because almost all of the women now have played with each other at one point or another.

Will it work with pool? Will it work with a group prodominently male? Seems like it'd be a fun idea, unless there are a lot of people that you don't like that may end up being your team mate. But as she was telling me, that even the one's that she didn't like or thought she had a problem with she really didn't once they were on the same team.

Good luck,

Alex
