View Full Version : Post Pics Instruction From heater451

heater451 generously gave me this info and I was able to figure it out, so if I can I am sure anyone can. ;-)!! It is also provided in another post but a bit burried. I am loving this board more every day! Thanks again!!

If you are looking to post a graphic with your name, you do that from your "My Home" page, under the first 'Edit' link, for "Personal info, etc. . . ." You would put the URL into the "Your Picture (Entire URL - Picture size is 65x75 pixels)" Field.

To embed a picture, you use the [ img] and [ /img] tags around the URL in your message.

Unfortunately, you must have the pictures loaded onto a server, on the 'net, in order to link to them. Therefore, you will have to upload them to the space, provided to you by your ISP. (Note: Some free sites will allow you to upload graphics, but won't let you link to them--such as Tripod.)

Heads up to all... if you are going to use these images on this website you should not be linking directly to newdeco.com without their permission. Download the image, then upload it onto your own site, either one your ISP provides or one of the free image hosting sites on the web.

I wish there were more sites like this, this is the most comprehensive site for pool pics I have ever come across. And, I have been searching for a long time for the Twilight Zone Pool pic.. now I have it.

why? what's going to happen??

Not sure if anything but a "thanks" from www.newdeco.com (http://www.newdeco.com) would be forthcoming. We are not selling anything.. only making the CCB readers aware of what is in store for them when they visit the site.

thanks for the heads up

I think this is good advertising for them, anyone can pull pics from any site, But if you want a good quality print you need to order it from them or poster. Also a lot of the images if not all are either public domain or owned by the studios that made the film.
I am not sure about using their site's ulr.
It would be nice if the WEBmaster could set up to allow us to drop in regular jpgs or gifs?/ccboard/images/icons/smile.gif

The problem is you are stealing bandwidth, everytime the picture loads on this page it uses bandwidth. The website that you are linking from has to pay for that bandwidth. With the CCB being a low traffic site and small images being linked, it probally won't make a huge difference, BUT, I've had friends who have been hit with bills for 2 and 3 hundred dollars over what they normally pay. Why, because enough people linked images off their sites to high traffic message boards and personal websites before they realized it was being done. So what is the sollution, first he emails the people asking them to remove the link, and when that doesn't work he changes the picture to some sort of pornography, now the porn shows up on every website and message board it has been linked too. He can do that just by replacing the picture, the picture is different, but the file name is still the same. I understand most people on this site are not into this techno stuff, and I don't mean to preach. But it is important to know the rules before you start messing with other peoples websites. If you want more info on this subject, use a search engine on "Stealing Bandwidth" there are hundreds of sites that deal with netiquette.

1 thing to add:

Also, if you are linking to file with a large filesize, it will greatly affect the download speed for anyone with a slow, dial-up connection.

Even though the HTML only displays a small picture, it still has to handle the actual filesize. (Although, anything already posted on the web is, arguably, small enought to allow "reasonable" download times.

Good point heater; I'm certain that everyone on the CCB with a dialup has been to a site that has tons of graphics and images that have to load up before you are able to use the site. Frustrating to say the least .When they are linking the images from someone else's site it is even slower.

It is not hard to move an image on to your own website, just right click on the image and hit the Save_Image_As button. This will download the image on to your computer. Now go to your website or image hosting site, upload the image onto that site. Then right click on the image again and press the Copy_Image_Location button, go to your My Page on the CCB and copy the line of text into the picture bar.
I'm sure heater,as will I, will help anyone who has any problems, he seems to have a good handle on what's going on here.

I emailed the webmaster about using photos without url's, and they are working at it (got a very quick response!)
It envolves changing servers but this new board is a work in progress and I suggest we all be patient and borrow images from newdeco sparringly/ccboard/images/icons/wink.gif!!
