2003 Championship goes to 81 million homes

24 March 2004: Matchroom Sport, producers of the Mosconi Cup, the annual Europe v USA 9-ball pool challenge, can announce that Fox Sports Net, America’s widest reaching sports network, will be broadcasting a one hour highlights programme of the 2003 event on Sunday 4th April at 5.00pm.

With a ten year history behind it, the Mosconi Cup has developed into pocket billiards’ most exciting event as two six-man teams from each territory go head-to-head in a Ryder Cup style format.

Following nine successful years in London, the 2003 Mosconi Cup took place at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas where it was received by sell-out crowds who witnessed four days of pure drama.

Featuring legends of the game like Earl Strickland, Steve Davis, Johnny Archer and Ralf Souquet, the destination of the famed trophy went right down to the wire.

Now the widest range of sports fans across America will get an opportunity to sample the unique Mosconi Cup atmosphere on Sunday 4th April.

Commented Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn, “This represents real progress for the Mosconi Cup and men’s pool in general. This is Fox Sport Net’s first broadcast of one of our pool events and they’ve started with the very best.

“Hopefully, this will be the start of something big and we will be coming up with some more ideas for Fox Sports Net to look at in the future.”

"I am happy to be in business with Barry Hearn and Matchroom Sport," said George Greenberg, Executive Vice President of Programming and Production, Fox Sports Net. "It is a great opportunity to get world class events that will make for wonderful programming on FSN."
