I can make it about half the time.

It's not a common shot, but it does come up in One Pocket sometimes. Backcutting this ball is possible with lots of practice. As usual, it's all about aim, speed and stroke. If you get a chance ask Bill Nolan to show you the shot. He's been seen to practice this shot further up the rail.

No, but I've been forceed to do this one since I'm a lowly C player and suck at position play:
Shot it the same way - rail first, lots of right.
Its a common shot that is described, but I would bank that ball more than likely. Anyways, once you practice and learn that backcut, it can be fun and you can entertain some different versions for some people. I personally like this one:
I can also shoot it from off the center of the head rail and cut a froze ball on the center of the foot rail. Similiar stroke.

I shoot this version of it all the time in 9 Ball.
In this situation with the object ball nearly frozen, the thin hit safety is difficult anyway.
If you use the rail first kick shot, the balls often roll up safe if you miss. The main thing is to keep the cue as level as possible and aim with inside to just miss the object ball. The level cue removes the swerve, making the aim much more accurate. Hitting the shot relatively soft is easier than trying to force it, because the english takes better. The interesting thing is that the object ball can be made even if it's off the rail a bit.
Wally is that a 14.1 match? if so did he play a safe after it.like maybe driving the CB into the rack (8 or 5b).
I have made similar shots on the foot rail as well as the long but it's hard for me to get shape on the next ball (in 9B) unless it is near by.

No. I was just too lazy to move the racked balls off the table.
The first time I saw this shot Ginky did it the BCA that he won. It's on espn2 tomorrow at 5.
I have used this shot in 8-ball. My teammates thought I was nuts until they saw me make it.

that is the only way to shoot that shot if the bank was blocked. Rail first, inside english, med-slow speed and then just pray you dont scratch lol

I only occasionally check CCB, but I have seen a similar shot. I saw Jeanette Lee put the object ball on the center of the foot rail, then put the cue ball on top of the cushion on the center of the head rail (cutting the object ball into one of the corner foot pockets). She made it on the third try (I think the proposition is to make it within 10 tries). I came close to making it within 5 tries, then completely lost interest.

I play this shot all the time. Mostly when I need to keep whitey in the same general area. I shoot it with inside and can kill the cb within two rails. I've also have done the simular shot in the corner and the cb from endrail to endrail without the scratch. It really helps to know that shot and all the possibilities.
