View Full Version : WPBA winnings

My question was how high a rating does one have to be to actually 'make a living'. But I understand Allison only made 45k last year. Endorsments add but one must have a high rating for those. So, it sounds like only the highest 2 or 3 rated players can actually make a living. Pretty sad. /ccboard/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep it's a shame. Here is top 6 from AZB site
Player Name 2003 Prize Money
Isn't that unbelievable and remember the women pay a $500 entry fee so really anyone outside the top 5 made less than 20K!!-After expenses probably-under 15k.
Now from a different perspective, approx 40% of anyone's winnings actually came from the entry fees or in other words from amongst themselves!
Everytime i hear Mitch Laurance talk about "how far womens pool has come" I want to throw a brick at the TV. I mean how the hell can he say that especially knowing that the WPBA PAYS ESPN to put it on TV!!

Hey Nostroke, you are right. It is a shame but I guess Mitch is referring to the prize money coming a long way. When the older matches were on TV the prize money in 98 and 99 was only $6500 for first. Now first is a little higher between $11,000-15,000. Hopefully soon outside sponsorship can make the game better.
Cranston, alot of the players make money from endorsements.

/ccboard/images/graemlins/confused.gifI think I read that the WPBA pays the entry fee of the top 15 players & there were some other perks...JER

i just spoke to a player who broke into the top 16 and what the advantages were vs top 32. She did not mention that her Entry fee was paid. She only mentioned not having to meet a top 16 player in the first 2 rounds.
Still she could have failed to mention that. Ill ask in Vegas or before and let you know.

Well, sorry to report, no one gets their entry fee paid for them by the WPBA. The perks for being in the top 16 is not meeting another top 16 player for two rounds. The WPBA picks up the tab for makeup and pictures at the end of the year. Other than that I am not sure. Hopefully I will find out soon!
