Where will it end?

MALIBU, California (AP) -- The City Council gave final approval Monday to an ordinance that makes it the latest municipality in Southern California to ban smoking on its beaches.

The council voted 5-0 to approve the beach smoking ban, which follows similar actions approved in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. It will go into effect in 30 days.

Mayor Sharon Barovsky, who smokes, said the new law is needed because of concerns about the health impact of secondhand smoke and the unsightly litter caused by cigarette butts.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies patrolling the beach will be responsible for enforcing the ban.

Two other Southern California beach cities -- San Clemente in Orange County and Solana Beach in San Diego County -- have also enacted smoking bans on their beaches.

I don't agree with it. This is overstepping government boundaries as far as I am concerned.

However, I am sure the litter will go down some. Smokers are definitely the dirtiest people (as a whole) I have ever met.
