Good morning:

Is anyone on the board familiar with "On the Wire Billiards" published and distributed on the West Coast and if so, what is your opinion of the publication?

We receive a stack of "On The Wire" at the pool room. It's a "newspaper" style monthly puplication. Sometimes we get 1-2, sometimes we get 12-18. It's "free" to the public, but they requested $60 per year to cover printing, mailing, etc., which the owner paid.
It covers mostly Washington and Oregon with some coverage of California and a few "instructional" type articles.

I get the issue every month. Lots of coverage on pool tournament results for the North West and West Coast.

Pechaur and McDermont tour coverage. Lots of room ads and weekly tournament schedules.

Carrissa Biggs runs the paper and also the Pechaur tournaments for the west coast.

Good people.

Check out "On the Break" web site www.onthebreak.com (http://www.onthebreak.com)
another fine West Coast monthly news paper

I'm not sure if it is the same outfit, but they used to have a great web site, with a lot of good stories and instructional information. The site was redone a few months ago, and it has not been the same since. Among other things, they no longer have the archives which included a ton of good material.

Tom...On The Break is published here in Bozeman, MT, NOT the west coast (the editor is a friend of mine named "Cheese"...you may have met him, as he hand delivers the papers all across his 'route')! LOL Like On The Wire, it covers tournaments in MT, ID, WA, OR, and CA. Also has info on ND & SD events. Both papers are very nice monthly publications.

Here are the links.

On The Break News (http://www.onthebreaknews.com/)
On The Wire (http://www.onthewirebilliards.com/)

I personally like the The Break website because they post every page on there and have previous months. The Wire's site it more pleasing to the eye but not a lot of info. The Breaks is plain but good.

I didn't even know my name was gonna be in that newspaper. There was a short article about me winning a tournament. I framed it on my wall. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I really like the publication and they seem to move out of the local rooms in a hurry. The instructional material is top notch, especially when Nick Varner was writing an article on One Pocket in every edition. There have been articles by a bunch of top players besides Nick, llike Buddy Hall, John Horsfall, Paul Potier and many others.

It's both a "Billiards Store" and a newspaper. The Paper is the most impressive of any of the regional papers i have seen, most of which have gone by the wayside. I have seen it in San Diego, Northern Oregon and LA, so their market is quite substantial.

I picked up one of their T-Shirts in Lincoln City last year. It's top of the shelf heavy duty cotton and that's my impression of the whole outfit.

What's your name nhp? I'll have to look for you when I am browsing through it. I have been in there a few times in months past for APA stuff and a larger tourney at Jillians-Seattle. Hopefully make some Pechauer Tour stops next year and place in some of those.
