Can someone tell me how to apply to play in qualifiers in Cardiff and how exactly they work? I think I understand race to five round robin with the top four players qualifying. But qualifying for what? Another level or are they actually in the big tournament? How is the draw done for these qualifiers? What is the equipment, balls, cloth, tables, pocket size? Then, if I were to qualify, what is the actual prize money breakdown?
I promise I'm not trying to be a smartass. It's a serious move for me to go to England and I just want to know what I'll be up against.I would like to go and I'd be positive and quiet no matter what I saw that I might not like.
I need the dates, hotel info, etc., too. Thanks in advance, Grady

This is how the tournament works.

There are 128 players split into 16 groups of 8 players each. A round robin is played, race to 5 alternate break, with the top 4 from each pool advancing into a 64 player single elimination tournament.

Of the 128 spots there are 11 being offered for qualifiers, all the other spots are given out by the governing bodies or as invitations from Matchroom Sports. For example, the UPA had 14 spots to be filled and the top 14 ranked American players will be going.

In order for Grady to play, he would have to either be invited by Matchroom Sports or win one of the qualifying spots. To play in a qualifying tournament go to www.ukpool.com (http://www.ukpool.com) and find out all the details, dates and hotels, and fill out an entry form. The winner of each event gets into the 128 man field.

The payout structure for the main tournament is:

1st $65,000
2nd $30,000
3-4 $17,500
5-8 8,500
9-16 $ 4,000
17-32 $ 2,000 x 16 $32,000
33-64 $ 1,500
5th in pool 1,000
6th in pool $ 500

Last year the equipmet was GCIV with Simonis 860, Sardo rack 9 on the spot.I assume it is the same this year. I don't know how the draw was made.
