View Full Version : You'll never see me at KFC again.

Not that I go there often but this broke the camel's back for me.
LOL, I don't think I can watch.
07-21-2004, 10:42 AM
I couldn't even watch that on the world news last night. I can't stomach sick violence like that. No that explains why I've had chicken from the store with broken bones.

So why is PETA suing KFC, and not Pilgrim's Pride? I don't see how you can hold KFC liable, unless they were condonong the activity, which they weren't.
PETA is sue happy, and KFC has deeper pockets, that's all.
07-21-2004, 11:48 AM
I believe KFC was told of the abuses before in this plant.
Not that I care about PETA getting money but I'm not really going to KFC anymore even if they don't sue KFC.

Yeah I really don't think you can blame KFC. They probably visit their supplier's plants but you know everybody's going to be on good behavior when that happens.
I have changed my eating habits somewhat since I read a book called Fast Food Nation. All I can say is, try to buy your ground beef at a place that grinds it onsite /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I actually eat chicken.
I know it's a tough order when one gets into this animal rights bandwagon but I gotta draw the line somewhere.

It sounds cruel, but they was jes tenderizing the meat

Well, they should do it the Kobe way then.
Feed the chicken with beer and soy and massage them daily. /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

So that's how he got them into bed...did that come out at his trial?
Maybe they should adopt the new method for killing whales...get 'em with grenade tipped harpoons

Kobe beef is done that way. I mean the REAL Kobe beef in Japan. /ccboard/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Good thing I read yer reply...I've tried the beer and massage thing with no luck; even sprung for a bottle of wine once, at the gourmet section at K-Martha's. I was just heading out the door to buy some soy sauce

Picking one restaurant to boycott is no hardship, but if you feel strongly about this are you planning to avoid all stores that carry Pilgrim's Pride chicken?
07-21-2004, 03:59 PM
That'd be easy.
We have Zacky Farms here mostly.

I've worked in the poultry industry when I was in high school, and seen jerks abuse chickens, "dumb as rocks" people, and these same people dotted a pew in church every Sunday like they were pillars of the community. I hope that if there is reincarnation in any form, that these people come back as a chicken.
Sad thing is that KFC just happened to be the venue who this first came to light about. You can be sure that it's not a rarety whatsoever. If the women in our own armed forces could grin over dead Iraqi bodies, and diddle humans with glow rods,,,well, none of it, including animal cruelty paints a nice picture of our so called civilized society. There is not any excuse under the sun for any or all of this, NOTHING...sid

Massaging the chickens... Sounds really funny. I bet PETA might just endorse KFC is they started massaging chickens.
07-23-2004, 05:47 PM
The PETA video I saw here (http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?video=bea_kfc) is the way all chickens are treated, not just those destined for KFC. They chickens are being mass produced. Is it comfortable for them? No. Do you want slow grown chickens raised, handled and transported in comfort? Then be prepared to pay double, triple or more for them. Are you willing to pay?

BTW, you may not want to watch that video. I thought later to put a warning in the above post but I can't edit it. While it may not be shocking to someone familiar with livestock slaughtering, to the average layman, it is not pretty.
Yes not excatly something the average person would want to see. When I was a kid my brother and I had the task. One would hold and the other chop. Problem is the chicken didn't know he was dead yet. Flop all over the yard spewing blood everywhere. My dad use to just pull their heads off by the legs and head under his foot. I was at a slaughter house. The chickens were still very much alive when there throats were cut. All in all I doubt there is a big change in how there handled. I even had a pet chicken, it never got eaten.

It's definitely disturbing along with the cattle we slaughter. When I looked at it it was just as I thought it would be like. These people seem detached from them and treated them like business as usual.
Makes me think of what the jews went through or the hostiges and everything else we mankind can come up with. Sad for sure, I guess there's no hope for us humans.

I was eating chicken wings and chicken fried rice last night and the images from the video started coming back. Not very appetizing. I don't know that there is a much better way to produce a lot of chickens for low cost; but I don't intend to watch that video again. I'd rather think about my happy place. TBk
