I would like some help from the more knowledgable at CCB about the %amount paid to each place in calcutta style tourneys. A local room owner in my town is wanting me to run a weekly 9ball tourney with calcutta based on a 32 player field. What amounts do you think I should pay to the top finishers and how many places to pay based on the field of 32? The entry fee is going to be set at $15.00 per player. I have played calcutta and run tourneys without calcutta. Oh yeah, also a $5 green fee. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I would suggest paying 8 places (25%). You didn't say if your tourney is single or double elimination. At $10 per player ($15 entry - $5 green fee), you'll have a $320 pot.
For single elim, how about 1st = $100, 2nd = $60, 3/4 = $40, 5-8 = $20.
You can use a similar concept for double elimination paying 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5/6th and 7/8th.
The Calcutta would be paid in approximately similar percentages.

In single elimination, you must have a playoff for 3rd vs 4th, otherwise they are equal.

On another unmentioned note, the house will usually take 10% of the entire calcutta before distribution AND be mindful that calcuttas are usually against the law most places especially if alcohol is served in house.BS

Ralph, 8 places in the tournament. Roughly what I'd do is pay 35%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 6%, 6%, 4%, 4%. I always had to juggle the figures a little. So on a $330 pay out it would be, $110, 70, 50, 36, 20, 20, 12, 12. The calcutta pays 4 places, 40%, 30, 20, 10. I've never heard of the house taking 10% as BS said. The owner and you should be aware of any laws that prohibit the calcutta. Liquor control out here does not allow such.

Tournament should try to pay at least 25% of the field
Calcutta varies a lot.. but usually the minimum is 1st and 2nd.. but can cover 3rd and sometimes 4th..

Never get caught taking 10% of the calcutta... in the majority of the US States.. this is illegal.
