View Full Version : What's Your Pool Playing Soundtrack?

08-20-2004, 05:45 PM
I recently saw a pic of Sarah Ellerby taking a shot while listening to her iPod strapped on her back. I was wondering what she was listening to. If you were to have 3 or 4 songs (about the length of a pretty slow 9 ball game) on your iPod (or any other portable audio solutionn), what would they be? Here are mine:

01. Warren Zevon - Warewolves In London
02. Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
03. Berlin - Take My Breath Away
04. Houston - I Like That

The first track is from The Color of Money when Tom Cruise first uses the cue that Eddie gave him, against the top stick in the pool hall (while the camera rotates around him and the table and he runs the table after his oppponent misses on the 4 ball). Second track keeps the tempo alive, third track slows down the mood for more concentration since i find it harder to finish my run when less balls are on the table, and the fourth and last track are to hype up the final 2 or three shots. Has anyone tried playing with their music gear like this? I have once, but im going to try out this soundtrack 2nite.

I've played with headphones with great success. Problem is that it's not allowed in the majority if not all big events. I never had a problem using them on the JOSS tour, but i would imagine that it would change for their finals.
The song i listen to is one from the movie BASIC INSTINCT.
It's a club dance track and it's in the scene where he goes to see her in the club...and she first seduces him. Strong baseline with other notes coming in at various times. I just put the track on repeat and zone out completely.
It just puts me into gear and tunes everything else out.

It's a song by a group called "La Tour" and the track is called "BLUE"

Could be that some tunes help your brain work better....just like on standardized tests. People that are forced to listen to classical music outscore people that don't.
That is why there are all those classical baby Cd's out there so that a child's brain is stimulated.

I gotta say after seeing poolhall junkies superstar by saliva always gets me going, for those who have seen the movie but dont know its the song at the very end at the beginning of the race to 9. Awesome song!

I've never tried and I don't have a player. Actually I doubt it would help my game at all since I'd rather have it quiet or a juke box that is not loud.

Frank Sinatra - Luck Be a Lady

08-21-2004, 02:56 AM
My top four would be:
1. Rise- Hair of the Dog
2. We All Die Young- from the soundtrack of Rock Star
3. You May Be right- Billy Joel
4. Cheatin Heart Cafe- David Lee Roth and Travis Tritt

08-21-2004, 03:09 AM
Scooter - Endless Summer (remix)
Double Dutch - Here Comes the Noise
Scott Brown vs Hyperbass - I Became Hardcore

I find the beats very relaxing, soothing blocks out other noises...

I love these threads! You know an ipod holds more than 4 songs right? This is a very difficult task to just narrow it down to 4 songs. I have been thinking about it all night and could only get it to five. These are the five for this moment in time, and I reserve the right to change them. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here we are:

1.Mary Lou Lord (or Elliot Smith)- I'll Figure You Out (Only the BEST song in the world right now)

2. Jack Johnson- Flake (the bass line folks...it just seems to help my game.)

3. Jimmy Buffett- Boat Drinks ( a classic)

4. Van Morrison- Wonderful Remark (it's all about the horns in this one.)

5. Al Green- Here I Am (Come and Take Me) (cause you're gonna need some funk to shoot me, LOL)

...and the list could go on and on...I could probably fill up a 60 G ipod, twice. (do they make 'em that big?)

Damn Doc, thats a big list /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

08-21-2004, 11:21 AM
Mostly old instrumental rock--tunes like Tequila, Green Onions, Time Is Tight, Telstar, Grazing in the Green Grass, etc. This kind of stuff makes me feel good, but it doesn't make me too nuts to function.

Other possibilities for special pool moods and pool occasions: Skokiaan (Perez Prado), All Blue (Miles Davis), Crossroads (Cream), Baby [You've Got What It Takes] (Dinah Washington and Brook Benton), Route 66 (Manhattan Transfer), Highway 61 (Johnny Winter), Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va (Carlos Santana), Feel Good (James Brown), Pamela Brown (Leo Kottke), California Dreaming (Mammas and Papas)...

I think I'd favor lengthy great instrumentals (no lyrics), such as Sacred Ground (Craig Chaquico), Chitlins con Carne or Riviera Paradise or Lenny (Stevie Ray Vaughn), etc.

For a shocker, how about Pachelbel's Canon? (Recommended as THE soundtrack for dead stroke in the Dead Stroke tape series).

08-21-2004, 04:51 PM
Bitch Please II- Eminem and Dr. Dre
Like A Rolling Stone- Bob Dylan
Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner- Warren Zevon
You Not Like Me- 50 Cent

Of course, composing the proper pool playing soundtrack is no easy task. but here is the slightly amended version of mine.

Signal - Do As Infinity (uptempo Japanese techno type)
Cold Shot - SRV (classic pool song IMO)
Aurora - Vanessa Mae (smooth and rhythmic)
words of the mind (brandnew journey)(meet my friend mix) - move (brings the tempo back up)
duality - Slipknot (fast and furious, but motivating)
White Flag - Dido (calming down)
Cigarettes (live version) - King's X (just a damn good song)
Stream of Consciousness - Dream Theater (long instrumental that just rocks)
Ice 9 - Joe Satriani (good groove and vibe)
The Audience is Listening - Steve Vai (a great song to run out to)

and there are tons more than i like to listen to. And luckily my iPod will be here very soon.

Nothing gets me in dead stroke quicker than oldschool Metallica. Battery, And Justice for All, One...YEAH BABAY!!!
I'll be playing decent with my friend and when it comes one he'll go...great there goes this race. HEHE

08-23-2004, 06:21 PM
Fat Bottom Girls

J.Geils, Hard Drivin' Man, "Baby I'm gonna leave you, honey don't ask me why"

Statesboro Blues by Alman Bros Band, "If you can't make it baby, your sister Lucille said she wants to go...and I sure would take her"

About any clasical music, this music might actually be first...sid

Only because I am a pathetic dork I am posting in this thread again. /ccboard/images/graemlins/cool.gif It has been bothering me so much that I had to take after 9 ball girl and make a CD of music I can shoot pool to. I was a hard feat, but I think I got a kickin' one here:

1. Frozen Charlotte- -Natalie Merchant featuring Innocence Mission
2. Tomorrow Never Comes - Big Head Todd and the Monsters
3. Cleaning Windows - Van Morrison
4. Here I Am (Come and Take Me)- Al Green
5. Frontiní - Jamie Cullum
6. Try a Little Tenderness - Otis Redding
7. Lowdown - Chicago
8. Lovely Day - Bill Withers
9. This Love - Maroon 5
10. Your Body Is A Wonderland - John Mayer
11. Goin' Home - Dinosaur Jr
12. Flake - Jack Johnson
13. Iíll Figure You Out - Mary Lou Lord
14. Little Plastic Castle - Ani Difranco
15. Allentown - Billy Joel
16. Boat Drinks - Jimmy Buffett
17. Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
18. Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd

Anybody want a copy? LOL. (I'm just joshin' RIAA, geez.)

...and yes, the Van song has changed since my first post, as I like this one better today. /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

...and OMG, does ONE ever rule...it just didn't have an appropriate place on my CD (at this time.)

My memory leaves me but a Baltic country uses Johann Sebastion Bach to teach it's school children. They call the method Sofhrology. The 2-4-2 beat makes learning easy I wonder if the beat would work with pool. ####

08-24-2004, 03:25 PM
You gotta go older with Metallica. Anything off Ride the Lightning, like Creeping Death or For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Go back to Kill 'em All and The 4 Horsemen.

Kato~~~supreme metalhead.

08-24-2004, 03:33 PM
Another addition:

Eternal Tears of Sorrow~~~Burning Flames Embrace

Kato~~~would play 24 hours a day if the pool room jukebox had Nightwish, Sanctuary, Sonata Artica, and Eternal Tears of Sorrow on it.

08-24-2004, 07:09 PM
WOW. You all have listed some GREAT tracks...I agreed with the majority of those!!

Alanis Morrisette
The Beatles
Sheryl Crow
Wilson Phillips
are the slower tunes.

When it's kick-butt time:
Stabbing Westward
3 Days Grace
Linkin Park
Eve 6

Oh, I give up...I have like 5 different mixed cd's for different occassions, and I don't have one band repeated twice.

I love music, lol.

I'll just wait for more responses here to look at, I suppose!!

Oh hellZ yeah it is!
