Figured I'd ask here since I've had no success on the 'net. I'm the administrator on my home PC, but when I try to install various programs, I get the same basic error: that I don't have administrative rights. Specifically, I can't seem to install the Comcast Video Mail program on my home computer, but had no problems installing it on my home laptop (which is also running XP)Anyone have any similar stories and their solutions?

TIA,

Fred, there are several things that can cause this. Where in the installation process does the error occur? i.e. does setup run, files copy, etc. and then the error comes at the end? Or does it happen as soon as you invoke the setup program.

A couple things you can try:

Log in under the administrator account, rather than an equivalent account.

Look in the installation folder for an installation log. Open the log in notepad and see if you can see where the installation fails. It may be a permissions problem in a registry key.

Also be sure any anti-virus and spyware software is disabled before you run setup.
