Someone gave me a Porpers shaper and tacker. How is it used? I've never used one before.

If it's the kind that looks like a cylinder, with one end flat w/little spikes, and the other end is concave w/spikes, I have one.

The concave end can be used like a piece of cue chalk. However, don't get too crazy, chewing the tip up by rotating the cue 'inside' it. You can also 'rock' the shaper from side-to-side.

To use the flat end (the tacker), you can cup the whole thing in your hand, and kind of hammer down on the tip. This roughens up the leather, and puts indentations in the tip for chalk to catch into it.

Since either end grinds up the tip leather quite a bit, you'll want to hit a cue ball several times, to smooth the tip back down some.

Occasionally, you may have a 'hanger', a piece of the tip that got chewed out by the coarseness of the knurling. You can try to pick these off, or sometimes they work back down, by hitting.

Hope this helps.
