Hey, haven't posted in a while. I was just wondering why there isn't any pool on TV lately. It used to be on a couple times a day. What's going on?

For a while, ESPN had a few hundreth run WPBA's and then EMPIRE Network was showing a new ring game each week. Now, Empire is running the same ring game episode for three or four weeks before showing a new one. /ccboard/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think nine ball girl posted a new schedule that looked pretty good for Oct or November but, knowing ESPN it just won't happen with much dependability. If you are really looking to see much of your sport on TV, you better take up Golf or Chainsawing!!! Better yet, just take up Texas Holdem....

I don't post it any more because the tv guide website is very difficult to copy from.

You have this to look forward to though

Yeah, I was getting pretty good at recording them off of ESPN, but then they just kind of dumped the whole thing. I just checked their schedule and there are two listed for the whole month of October. As Deeman said, they are supposed to show a bunch of matches from the just completed US Open starting November 1st. I guess they don't like us as much as they used to. /ccboard/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It always slows down when college football/NFL season starts. Especially when MLB is still in season.

Seems that the general consesus is that Espn ain't really airing pool, right? That's what I seemed to gather so far from your answers. I have wondered the same thing DDB, flip channels periodically for Espn and Espn2 and get zilch...sid

I have my TIVO set up with a season pass for 'billiards. When any kind of billiards program comes on ESPN2 day or night the TIVO snags it for me. Lately it's been picking up nothing but reruns of the 2004 WPBA Classic. It's also set to record the 2004 World Pool Championship from Taipei, Taiwan on FSBA on the 10th of October.

When November rolls around I expect it to be a busy little DVR scooping up all the special nine ball goodies that ESPN2 has to offer and making them available for me to watch later on when I have the time to enjoy them.

In the past four months my TIVO has helped me build a library of about thirty hours of top notch nine ball contests. Its ten second instant replay and slow motion stop action features turn every program into a potential learning tool.

Snake -- thinks TIVO's are the next best thing sinced slice bread and that pool is better than sliced bread.

SnakebyteXX, I have the same TIVO setup and I agree it is awesome. With TIVO you don't have to repeatedly check TV schedules to see when pool is on - just set a Season Pass to record everything billiard related and it takes care of it from there. And as you say, the digital quality instant replay, slow-mo, and ability to skip commercials in a couple of seconds just makes it that much better.

I noticed that the 14 scheduled pool times above only include four matches, Reyes vs Deule, Duele vs Immmonen, Strickland vs Morris and Owen vs Hohmann, with each match being repeated 3 or 4 times. How long are these matches, 1 or 2 hrs?

Things aren't much better up here in Western Canada, although we just had nine 2 hr highlight(minus 1/2 hr for commercials) shows of the 2004 WPC that I manged to make quality (commercial free) tapes of. I heard that they only showed 4 hrs of the WPC 2004 in the USA.Considering all the great American players, that's really unfortunate.RJ

ps. In Eastern Canada they showed the 2004 WPC, The World Pool Masters and US open pool all in the month of September.Count me jealous in the west.

Since I don't subscribe to the channel it was on I did not get any of it. I got 12 hours last year on Fox Sports World. That was cool.

On the Matchroom message board there are several Filipino guys that post. They get tons of pool there, much of it live. Some American poster indicated that he was jealous of the Filipinos for that.

Filipino poster Bob Guerrero wrote back "Yeah, you Americans get a functioning economic system and a working democracy and we get pool on tv. Who's the lucky ones?" /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Be sure to your VCR's or DVR's to record the Deuel vs. Immonen match. The shot that Deuel makes when he is on the hill and Immonen is at 3 or so is the most amazing shot I have ever seen executed in a pool match. In fact I would put it up against any shot I've see in the trick shot contests.

Deuel then proceeded to miss the routine 9-ball at the end of the rack. Makes me feel a little better. /ccboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Ross ~ thinks Deuels frozen rail full length draw shot in the Mosconi cup is the 2nd most impressive shot.

I hope they show his facial reaction. IIRC he looked like the cat that ate the canary /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can you post his shot on the RSB table? I can't imagine him topping the Mosconi Cup shot. Domeone described it to me and it didn't make alot of sense.

Honestly I don't remember the "exact" layout of the table or the shot. I would try to post it but everybody would start picking it apart like they did my post on Gabe's jump/bank shot /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

jump/bank thread with subsequent nit-picking (http://www.billiardsdigest.com/ccboard/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=ccb&Number=156096&page =&view=&sb=&o=)

I do remember the shocked look on the faces of about 300 attendees.

That "other" billiard website(first and last alphabet letters!)offers a great service called TV Minder. Just give them your email address and they'll notify you the day before any matches appear on TV. There have been two days of pool this week already. Most matches are shown in the morning though so I miss most of 'em. (between the satellite receiver,DVD,VCR-I haven't yet figured out how to record off the stupid thing /ccboard/images/graemlins/confused.gif)
