I'd like to quiet down a fan on a CPU, is there lubes to use, and not to use for this routine? Hopefully something common too...sid
Not sure if lubing will help quiet a fan. Unless the fan is really old and worn out, in which case the lube probably won't help. I know there are new fans out that are designed for quiet running, you might want to look into it. Hope this helps.
Sid,
If the fan bearings are bad you should just replace the fan.
There cheap usually under $10. I had one going bad and used a couple of drops of oil. It worked until I got a new fan in 3 or 4 days.
If the fan it's self is noisy as in fan speed, get a larger fan and heat sink combination. There rated in decibels (db) and air flow. A larger slower turning fan is a lot more quiet. The pc supply houses sell them I bought mine from cool pc (http://www.1coolpc.com/)

I have never used a lube. I did see somewhere that they were making quiet replacement fans.
