Well whadya know. The violence erupted Saturday when Ivorian warplanes launched a surprise airstrike that killed nine French peacekeepers and a civilian U.S. aid worker.

The Ivorians called it an accident, but the French took no chances. Within hours, French planes attacked the airport and took out 2 SU-25's and 5 MI-24 Attack Helicopters, thus leaving the Ivory Coast Air Force with one operational airplane.

Looks like the French have given themselves air superiority. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With no UN Vote??? How dare these occupying warmongers take unilateral action against peaceful fun loving Ivory Coast civilians! Where will we get our material for our points and inlays?

I am not sure if you are aware that United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that welcomed the deployment of Ecowas forces and French troops.
Just for the record, france also has troops in Afghanistan in “Enduring Freedom” and ISAF.

Yes, I am aware of the UN resolution. I was being mostly sarcastic which is the norm for me. The French presence represents a tiny police action in comparison to what is needed. However. I do applaud them for at least showing up. Do you know if any of the troops are actually French? Are they FFL troops or actual French citizens? /ccboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Spiderman,

All your thoughts of being named Ambassador to France have probably gone out the window now.....

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast - French forces opened fire on loyalist crowds Tuesday outside a makeshift French military post, witnesses said. A leading hospital reported seven killed and more than 200 wounded.

The French military force said it was investigating and refused to immediately comment...

It's OK for France to do this.

Unlike the US, France had the approval of France before they started shooting.
