Maybe this will instil some life into pool. Afterall, gambling is the driving force behind most sports anyway. And 9-ball ring games are ideal for gambling.

So...Mars Callahan has won nearly $500,000 in cash and prizes???????? .....that according to the article. Hmmmm. Hope the show is more realistic than that figure /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think, or at least hope, this will be great public exposure for our game. I honestly think the gambling aspect of it will attract more attention. Look at what Texas Hold'em and Blackjack tournaments on TV have done for Poker in the Casinos. 5 years ago, you had to wait at a table to get enough players in Hold'em, now you have to wait in line to get a chair. Hope this does the same thing to revive pocket billiards... although, I'd rather see them do 14.1 or 1-Pocket.

How can they call it "NO LIMIT" 9-Ball, when the players only have a few grand to lose & the winner has cap of $20,000 on his winnings.

Maybe they should think again & decide to call the matches "High Stakes 9 Ball", with a format of 4 players on a "challenge table".

Draw pills for the 1st match. 1st round of 3 games is $1000 until all 4 players have had a turn, then $2500 for 3 games, allowing all 3 players a chance. The last go round is $5000 for 3 last games. The player with the most cash gets $20,000 as a prize.

Each player can lose $8500 of his own money. On a good night, the best player can win $25,500 from the players & 20,000 from the prize fund. Women are encouraged to play.

Once in a while it would be a "real kick", to watch some real 5 speed players go at it for the same amounts. There are some intemediate players that have money.

RandyG pretty much knows all the pool players in the north Texas area, I would think.

There's a tournament down in South Padre Island at the end of this month that will probably have it's share of Texans. It's a pretty nice place to be in January... /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif
