This could also apply to W. Virginia. My ex-uncle is from there and this fits him perfect.

I don't really find that humorous. It has no place on this board. Bigotry even in it's mildest form is not acceptable.

Shucks, where I grew up in the mountains of Virginia that post would be as much fact as fiction. /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

popcorn, all of my kin are from KY and I thought it was pretty funny. There are other versions of this going around for AR and WV etc.

They left out a question though...

"If your porch collapsed, how many dogs would be killed?"

Popcorn, lighten up man!
There is a difference between bigotry and humour.
Irish comedians make irish jokes.
Jewish comedians make jewish jokes.

We should all be able to laugh at ourselves, dont you think/

Q

Your name's ...

I wanted to make a point but in doing so my posting was inappropriate. People are what they are and that is just the way it is. Bigots exist every where.

Popcorn, comedy has many forms...absurdity, illogic, satire, exagerration, etc....
The type of humor in both the Kentucky App. and your example, would to me be anarchistic humor.
If a Black comedian told the Black "jokes" it would be funny...Richard Pyrer/Eddie Murphy have made up worse. It's only funny when the butt of the joke, is repeating it, like Italians/Irish satiring there own peoples.
The social "plus" of this type of humor is that it forces us to look inside at our own predjudices, or misconceptions, re others.
The film "Falling Down" is a classic example:
(Google search)
"This film raises the question of the nature of a film's social contract with its audience and its contribution to a film's political appeal. Does Falling Down merely pander to a reactionary, right-wing sentiment in its audience (them damn Republicans, again), or is there a more complex exchange taking place between film and spectator?"
It's humorous when Michael Douglas destroy's the poor Korean's store....yet the shopkeeper is a victim here.
I thought the Kentucky app was humorous, because it was an exagerration of perceptions about Kentucky, Tennesse, W. Virginia, and Cincy,Ohio.
The Black humor is disturbingly humorous, because we are reminded of the hangings, etc.
Earlier today, I was reading up on U.S. Grant...and there was a link to a former slave that had written about him...in the intro to her writings, is this "disturbing" piece:

"Mrs. Mary Robinson, a highly intelligent, copper-colored Negress, who spent the greater portion of her life as the trusted slave of the Dent and Grant families, is spending the evening of her long and useful life at 3305 Caroline avenue. She is nearly 58 years of age. [Besides being much more intelligent than the average representative of her race], she is a keen observer and possesses a remarkably strong memory.
That's about as bad as "a credit to your race"
If we can't laugh though at ourselves.......

You thought you could sneak that one by me /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You meant to say Hamiltucky, not Cincy.

You know what's weird? When you cross the Ohio River into KY you only have to go about 10 or 15 miles until the dialect changes. It's true, any of the Cincy folks will back me up on this.
