Carolina WBC: Top three advance to today's action

The world's top three pool players all advanced to the final eight of the winners bracket Friday during the second day of the Carolina Women's Billiard Classic at Nash Community College.

The Women's Professional Billiards Association event has seen few upsets thus far, which the three biggest names still alive.

Allison Fisher, the No. 1-ranked player, ousted Jennifer Barretta 9-1 Friday.

Also, No. 2-ranked Karen Corr defeated Melissa Herndon 9-1 to set up a quarterfinal match with Gerda Hofstatter.

Jeanette Lee, ranked third, beat Kim Shaw 9-5 to advance to a matchup with Helena Thornfeldt today.

In other winner's bracket action, Thornfeldt beat Sarah Ellerby 9-4 and Hofstatter defeated Jennifer Chen 9-3.

Loser's bracket winners included Jeannie Seaver, Rachael Abbink, Darlene Stinson and Ikumi Ushiroda.

Play continues today with all players in action, beginning with a morning session (11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and ended with a later session (5 p.m.-11 p.m.). Tickets can be purchased at the door of Nash Community College's Brown Auditorium.

Sunday's semifinal and final rounds will be televised on ESPN and ESPN2 at a later date.

The Carolina WBC is the opening event on the WPBA tour and one of eight tournaments this year.
