Define "best". A couple of years ago Mike Massey had several at the BCA nationals. They were made by Dave Barenbrugge of Phoenix, and looked/played great.

You might read Fred Agnir's article on Paul Fanelli in January's Inside Pool Magazine on Pg.76.
Paul's butterflies look pretty good to me.

Some available Fanelli cues. He makes the "best" butterflies imo. Check out the buttsleeve on the cocobolo cue...

Too many to mention. These three among others I'm sure make a high percentage of butterfly cues.

Is it somehow the lighting, or is the finish in the photo labeled "purpleheart butt" not very smooth? It appears "rippled", like orange-peel on an automotive spray job.
