My wife and I want to take a few weeks in the Gulf and are looking for quaint places to stay. Someone who posts here lives there, I can't remember who I had a few PM's with. Anyhow, if anyone knows of a nice gulfside place in the Pensecola or Biloxi area please respond or PM. We both like 2 story motels or cottage style units on the gulf vs. condos or hotels. First weeks in May are what we're thinking.

Paul, not sure what type of beach you are looking for. The real white sand beaches run from Mexico Beach, Fla. to Pensacola Beach. Pretty much over developed when I lived there 10 yrs ago. I considered the Alabama thru Mississippi beaches pretty poor unless you like casinos and such.

I don't have any direct experience with north florida. I have heard good things about Destin. I checked out the coastal map and it has a few islands there. River or intercoastal waterway outlets with islands always capture the tropical atmosphere the best. They are also best for fishing. I'm from a little futher south. Ledo beach in Sarasota and Sanibel Island in Fort Meyers are rated among the top beaches in the world.

Don't know if you get the travel channel, but they are playing shows all this week which critique the best beaches, best resorts, best family beaches, not only in the world, but in Florida specifically, and also the southern coast of the US. They highlighted also several islands off the Florida Gulf coast, Georgia, the Keys, Bahamas, included in several different shows. They are having their "Beach week" this week.

Sanabel Island is beautiful. Sea Island Georgia, and Destin florida and also a spot right off Tallahassee, I think it is called Seaside, which was developed fairly recently, where the Architecture is New England style, and the beach is beautiful. The top rated beach Among all the US beaches was Naples Florida.
