Under "Felt Forum" in the latest issue of Billiards Digest was listed a new line of three-cushion cues named after Willie Hoppe. What is the difference between a three-cushion cue and a standard pool cue?

Typically they will have a smaller tip and ferrule, a straight taper, a little shorter length (~56") and be more butt balanced. Often you will see an all wood joint with the pin in the shaft half. A lot of 3C players around here like graphite shafts(stiff).
