I was in Las Vegas last weekend, and happened to notice the marquee at the Plaza hotel/casino downtown. It mentioned that an event involving Allison Fisher, Loree Jon Jones, Ewa Laurance, etc., was going on -- so I went in to check it out.

The "event" was the taping of a soon-to-be-broadcast television show, with some female professionals teaming up with "celebrities" (you'll see why I'm using quotes in a minute) in Scotch-doubles format Seven-Ball games. The segment I happened to see was Ewa Mataya Laurance vs. Sarah Ellerby. Ewa's "celebrity" partner was her husband Mitch Laurance. Sarah's partner was James Tolkan ("Stinger" in Top Gun). Other pros included Allison Fisher and Loree Jon Jones, and the other celebs included Paul Sorvino (whom I admittedly like a lot) and -- ahem -- Larry Manetti (who played "Rick" on Magnum, PI, about a million years ago).

Anyway, the taping was fun and it looked like the show might be entertaining to some of us die-hard fans (although I doubt that the cast assembled is going to reel in many non-pool types). Just wondering if anyone else had heard about this, or knows when it will be broadcast, what network, etc.

Thanks for all the great information on this board. I've been lurking for a while but will try to do my part in the future.

Tolkan and Sorvino are both good players I hear. I hope it airs because it will be interesting to see how Mitch plays after all these years of commentating.

Great! I want to see if Mitch "I married a Professional Pool Player" Laurence can run 3 friggin' balls. I'll be commentating at home. "That's definitly not what Mitch wanted to do". /ccboard/images/graemlins/cool.gif

This may be the show that I had mentioned some time ago when that other show, "Celebrity Pool" (I think is called), came up. This show that you saw sounds exactly like what I read a while back on BD mag. FWIW, I'd like to see this and hopefully, it will not be like that other show televised about 2 months ago that Jeanette Lee hosted with celebrities that couldn't play squat! I know Paul Sorvino definitely plays 'cause I've been to charity events and watched him.

Well, on the bright side, if Mitch is playing that means they will have to have someone else do the commentary /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thankfully for Mitch, it was Scotch doubles. So he never had to run more than one ball in a row. But to his credit, he did make a nice game-winning shot on a long, straight seven-ball. Both he and Ewa seemed surprised that it went in, so I get the sense his real talents lie elsewhere. Where, I'm not so sure. /ccboard/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oy Vey! Didn't they try this about 8 years ago and the "celebrities" were mostly NFL Cheerleaders and it was totally unwatchable?
