My grandmother used to say this - it's a conversation between two swedes (?) at a restaurant:

F U N E X ?
S V F X
F U N E M ?
S V F M
O K M N X !

Has anyone else ever heard this? Can anyone figure out what it is/means?

She also told this little story, one that I hope I remember forever:

It was a dark and stormy night
The sun was shining bright
His lips were sealed so tight
As he yelled with all his might
"Shoot me, Kill me, if you must
But spare my life", he cried!
The villian shot him with a knife
and killed him 'til he died

A fair young maid came down the path
Her form was bent with years
Her eyes were full of laughter
Her cheeks were full of tears.
She recognized the dying youth
and cried aloud "Who is he?"
The headless corpse arose and said
"My love, 'tis Izzie!"

"It was a dark and stormy night"
Who can ever forget this stirring opening line from Bulwer-Lytton's novel "Paul Clifford"?...
Each year San Jose State has a contest, to see who can equal, if not surpass this immortal prose.
And they have compiled a book, of winning entries from past events. Read this compelling review, about this must-have classic:
"Many of us know how to write bad Hemingway. Lots of us can write a bad novel noir, after, say, Raymond Chandler. But just a few pages of this book instruct us in a much broader range of bad writing. This book is a true classic and should be in every library. Or maybe, supressed..."
I think he meant bathroom, instead of library

Okay, I'm in, but just this once . . .
It was midnight on the ocean, not a streetcar was in sight.
I stepped into a drugstore to get myself a light.
The man behind the counter was a woman old and gray,
Who used to peddle shoestrings on the road to Mandalay.

We'll be sorry!

Actually, when this riddle went around decades ago, an amazing observation was had. The younger less cluttered minds would get it right away due to the phoenetic aspect. But the older more complicated / educated struggled greatly with the answer!

I was just getting ready to add a thread to answer the riddle when you know who beat me to the ham n eggs!
