View Full Version : Lacquer Scratches

I have a couple of older cues. They have a few scratches in the lacquer finish.
How can I make these look better ?
I'm not looking to make them pristine, just less visible.

If the scratches are just surface, you can sand them (slowly, lightly with a circular motion keeping the paper flat on the surface) with 1000 grit wet until they disappear then buff the area by hand with a medium to light duty rubbing compound, followed by very fine polishing compound with soft cloths. It's like rubbing out a car. I use McGuires. They make a swirl remover that is perfect for cues - it's a breaking down type of polish that has a glaze in it as well. Basically, you are just buffing the clear coat. Lacquers and most polyurethanes rub out easily. Careful not to cut through the clear or the area won't buff up. If that happens post it and I'll suggest an easy repair.
I spin the cue but you can do it by hand too.
