View Full Version : Height of Table Lights

I'd like to get some suggestions on the height of my new pool table lights.

- 8' table
- new 5'4" long light bar, with 3 100w incandescent bulbs in glass shades.
- 10' ceiling

My table is in the Living/Dining room. (Yes, I'm single. My girlfriend laughs every time she walks in the front door, but I also have a family room.) I have a halogen 4-bullet light way off-center in the ceiling pointed at the table and I have a 500w halogen floor lamp I turn up full that really lights up the room and table.

I'll center the new lights directly over the center of the table. What should the distance be between the top of the table and bottom of the shades ??

Mike Shamos in his "Encyclopedia of Billiards" addresses this issue. If you can get a hold of a lumens meter, the lighting should be bright enough so that each corner of the tables reads 630 lumens, I believe. (it's been a while)
