I am a new user and I was browsing through the forum and I noticed someone was trying to locate a particular cuestick to purchase. So, being that I had a similar cue, I responded with my own post that I had it and it was for sale. The next thing I know my post was removed from the forum by the moderator and I get the following message from the moderator:

Commercial content banned.

From: ccb_admin_2

No selling of any kind is allowed on this site - I have removed your post offering a cue for sale. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
-ccb_amind_2

So, I respond to this message asking permission to post a url to another site where this person may see and/or arrange a purchase of this cue. (In so many words)

Then I get the following response:

Re: Commercial content banned.

From: ccb_admin_2

No, you may not.

You may send a Private Message to anyone you like with your url, but do not post it or anything else that relates to your sale of anything. Allow me to suggest trying another forum if your main purpose is to sell your cue. AZBilliards.com has a subsection just for such things, and is a fine site, to boot.

Thanks,
CCB_Admin_2

Knowing this was not true, I proceed to do a search of all the posts made to the forum in the past six months looking for the exact phrase "for sale". To no surprise, I found numerous post offering anything from cue repair services, videos, cues, even presciption medications for sale. So I copied about 10 of the posts and sent them to the moderator to show him his policing of these activities was very inconsistent. Now check out his reply to me, and notice the slight back-pedaling in the beginning and irritation towards the end of his reply:

Re: Commercial content banned.

From: ccb_admin_2

I understand your concerns. The fact that our policing is not perfect - and lord knows it is not - does not give your permission to break the rules, too. You agreed to the board policies when you registered; please follow them. Thank you, again, in advance.
-CCB_Admin_2

So I reply again, to tell him that I have pointed out several posts soliciting several different items and services and yet they still haven't been removed. Now we get to the truth, read on:

Re: Commercial content banned.

From: ccb_admin_2

olivoil03:
If you want to provide me with links to the posts that look to you like they're breaking the rules, I will take a look at them and remove them, if I see fit, and when I have time. (Sending me copies of the content, without links, makes it a time-consuming task to re-find the posts in question.)
Thanks,
CCB_Admin_2

Does this moderator want me to do his job for him? I get it now, my post was removed as a result of convenience. So I replied a last time to let him know how I found all of the solicitation posts and that I don't wish to get anyone into trouble, he should just forget the whole thing, basically. Anyhow, I am new and I don't want to rock the boat, I just didn't see the harm in my initial response to begin with and really didn't understand why I was singled out.

What do you think?

Probably would have saved a lot of trouble had you simply responded to the original post with a note asking the poster to send you a PM, that you might be able to help them.

the moderator is part time. he can't catch every post that breaks the rules. send him the URL of the offending posts if you think they should be removed.

it is against the rules to sell things here (even though the rules are occasionally bent). either PM the party you wish to sell to or post it at AZB.

03,I had some words deleted, becaus they could be offensive. I haven't tried to sell anything on the forum, but I agreed not to when I registered. I think all in all,you are being treated fairly.

Yes, Iknow now it is against the rules, but what I was really disturbed with was the uy told me I couldn't post a url and there are clearly dozens of posters with links to their sites soliciting the sale of almost anything you could think of that is billiard related. Do you see my point? The rules state no commercial soliciting of any kind. I don't want others to have their posts removed, so I will just keep to myself and hope I have helped warn others.

I suppose you're right and every url in somebody's signature that points to a commercial site is breaking the rules, but let's face facts, there is just no way in hell he could track every link on every signature. Yeah, he nabbed you because it was convenient, but when get right down to it every get that gets a speeding ticket gets it because it was "convenient" for the cop that he speeded by where the cop was setup. The cop can't get everybody and neither can the CCB admin. JMHO

Can you provide the link so that we can see the context.?

It might help the Mod if you could show him what you are complaining about.

I think he showed great patience, tolerance, and restraint in answering your many posts, on the same subject. I also think private messages, as the name implies, are meant to be private...not reprinted here to make your point.
In summary, he said no items for sale, no links to items for sale, and since his free time is limited, he asked you to help out with the posts that you were concerned about...His job, as I see it, is not to do your work for you.
While the heading on your post reads "...of concern to you"
Most folks here know the rules, and know that from time to time, some may break the rules and get by with it.
Maybe you can explain what we should be concerned about?
you broke the rules, and got caught?
or
others got away with it?

I do not have a problem with any posts unless they are links to porn or pedophile sites. I simply pointed out what I thought were the same type posts I was interested in posting and told I couldn't. And there were hundreds not a handful, I only showed him a handful.

First let me say, as I already have , I didn't read the rules before posting. And I assume most people don't. They may assume like I did the usual standard: no harassment, porn, vulgarity, racial hate posts and things like that.

Secondly I didn't solicit anything, I replied to a post. If I hadn't said my cue was for sale to a guy who was looking for my cue, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
What I was concerned with was the fact that I cannot post a url to anywhere where products and services are sold. If you were entering a tournament and told beforehand or after the fact that you couldn't use a custom cue and you look around and a huge number of entrants have custom cues and are playing in the tournament, would you feel like you were singled out? And lastly, you did get part of it right.
At least you admit there are other rule breakers, but the " Concern You" part was just an FYI to anyone who is thinking about doing the same thing.

If you want to notify the mods of a commercial post, use the posting tools provided.

Look at the bottom of the post, where it says "Post extras". There is a little circle with a line through it. Just click this and it will notify the moderator, and they will remove the post if it breaks the rules. Just copy/pasting the content doesn't tell them what post you are b*tching about. Don't expect them to hunt through the threads looking for a specific post.

Internet forums get hit with automated spammers, it happens all the time. Don't make such a fuss. And next time you want to offer someone a cue here, send them a PM.

I think I got all of it right. You feel like you were singled out, couldn't get the admin to agree....so you fire back with a sarcastic post "...for sale"
Time to move on....

I'm convinced you are all on the payroll. You didn't answer my analogy of the incident with the tournament question though. If your answer is no, then you are lying to yourself. And I'm assuming you are one that has to have the last word regardless of its validity, so have at it. Thanks for the input.

Again, I didn't want the posts removed. I WAS POINTING OUT THAT URLS ARE ALLOWED ON THE FORUM REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY POINT TO. Sorry for the caps, I just feel people missed this was all. Thanks for the input.
