THE COLISEUM MALL PENINSULA 9-BALL OPEN
*First UPA Sanctioned Event of 2002
UPA kicks off the year in Hampton, VA
The UPA officially announces the
first sanctioned event of the year to be the "Coliseum Mall Peninsula
9 Ball Open" in Hampton Virginia
August 7th through the 11th
of 2002.
The UPA is making history already as this will be the first major pro pool event ever inside a mall in the US.
With a venue of 122,000 sq ft provided by the Coliseum Mall, the City of Hampton and the
thousands of billiard fans on the Peninsula, are buzzing with excitement. A large center arena
is in the works along with a EXPO like perimeter surrounding
the arena. The Peninsula is also
an area already thick with APA
leagues with around 1000 active members.
It seems the Sponsors will benefit greatly from the mega advertising blitz on tap for promoting this event. What's more is the large presence of cross over sponsorship. From Burlington Coat Factory to Auntie Anne's to
Dairy Queen ( DQ) to Hampton Chevrolet Mazda ..... these big wigs are already on board.
Last year, the smaller 2001 event was won by Johnny Archer , who in the finals versus Charlie Williams, ran a record 11 straight racks to win the event. Johnny will be returning this year to defend his title in a much larger venue and crowd.
Also like last year, there will be a large charity event scheduled to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula, which is slated for 5pm August 7th.
There will be an Official Site for this tournament in the coming weeks.
More about this tournament will be provided as information becomes available.
