View Full Version : Cool variation on a old one pocket shot.

Grady Matthews showed me a new way to play this bank shot. The cue ball and object ball are lined straight in to the opponents pocket. The way I play this is to bank one rail back to my pocket. The cue ball winds up in about position C.
Grady says he prefers to play it three rails so he doesn't sell out if he misses. Check this out. The cue ball winds up at position D.
Isn't that wild. I was able to do it after only a couple tries. It's really not much more difficult that the one railer with a much better outcome with the cue ball if you miss.

Did you have any trouble with making it in the other pocket?

I am new to this site , this will probably sound stupid, but how can i view the shot above.
Are you sure about that english? I play it as a stun shot center or favor inside english. It allows the c/b to travel up table easier. Never played it with low right. In some cases it could make a difference to avoid a kiss.

A couple of years ago at the DCC, I watched Shannon Daulton make that same shot -- except the length of the table, not the width. It was in a Bank Pool match. Maybe he was just showing off, but he made the shot...

Yep. Twice I made it two rails in the opponent pocket. That's the downside. Still a fun shot though.

That's the way I play these. I've been having trouble getting the transfer of english to the object ball. I think it's my stroke. Grady can get a lot more juice on it just using center ball than I can.
When we are shooting two and three railers across side he can hit the second rail 3/4 of a diamond below the side and still get it to reverse. I can't get anywhere close to that.

Definitely a game of creativity.
