The JPNEWT 9-ball tour was at Great Slates in Cambridge Maryland, this past weekend. As usual, it was a great tournament and the ladies provided a lot of good pool, for those of us in attendance.

Great Slates is the nicest pool room I have ever set foot inside. If you are in that area, I recommend you give it a try. It has good pool and good food, at reasonable prices. Owner, John Moody, could not have been nicer to the ladies of the JPNEWT tour.

Here are a couple of pictures of Great Slates.

In the tournament, the ladies finishing 9th-12th were Annette Carroll, Kathleen Lawless, MaryAnn Burnett and Tracy Boudroau.

This was another great tournament with a lot of good pool. I urge everyone to support your local regional tours and the pool rooms that sponsor tournaments. Let the room owners know that you appreciate that they host these tournaments. After all, they are most likely losing money on the deal and they are just doing their part to promote the game of pool.

Great pics Rich!! Nice to have so much of the field shown.

It is far and away the nicest room i have ever seen. The tables play so tight though-Not sure i like that but it is good for tournaments.

Caroline is now #1 despite missing 3 of 7 events if i read the NEWT site right. Looks like some long roadtrips are in our future.

I feel bad for Kathy and Carol but Caroline had only won one Q'r (or spot) until this weekend also.

Nice pics, Rich. I like that Tracy plays with her sunglasses on her head. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that does that! LOL

Dave, those pockets were very tight.

I could just barely put two balls, side by side, in the front of a corner pocket. My guess would be that the pocket opening, point to point, was no more than 4 5/8".
Also, I could not move the two side by side balls to the back of the pocket, so the pocket narrowed to well under 4 1/2".

Although tight, the pockets did accept balls pretty well, if I hit the shot well. /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

These were certainly tough tables to play, but, as you said, "good for tournaments".

What tables do they have?

Yeah Rich-Also they were cut straight. There was virtually no flare-In other words the front of the pocket was near as narrow as the back of the pocket. Nothing was going in that wasnt hit just right.

Great pics Rich. Thanks to the smoking laws, we can now see the other end of pool halls all across America.

eg8r

Actually, this was not a non-smoking room. I assume there was a pretty good ventilation system.

More like an awesome ventilation system! Did you realize that even though there was a ton of people at the nightclub listening to the band and smoking that we didn't come out smelling like an ashtray when it was all over? I didn't have to wash my hair when I got back to my hotel room. What a place!!

All I can do is repeat what I said earlier. This is the nicest pool room I have ever set foot inside.

Rich,

I signed up for the forum just cause of the pics, lol. Just kidding. The pics really are great. Thanks for posting them. It was a LONG day, wasn't it? John Moody has a great room, and the staff is all great.

Barb, just got the flyer for the next tourney, and I had to laugh when I read it! HAHA. Thanks for the note. Can't wait for the next event.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the pictures. John has a great room for players and it was also a great room for taking pictures.

Hope to see you at Bill and Billie's. Make sure you book your room early. /ccboard/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like the way you use words and pics to tell the story. You're economical with words and pictures but you bring the story to life and create interest in the tournament's outcome. Nice job!
