We amateurs never stop talking about something we call "the state of pool." This talk focuses almost entirely on the prize money and tournament opportunities available to pro players.

Well, why should amateurs care about these things? Is the pro game relevant to the amateur game in some significant way? If you think it is, then what's the connection you see? If there's a connection, maybe we should keep that connection in mind when we talk about improving the state of pool.

An active pro level program gives amateurs something to aspire to. It can also be a great way to learn the fine points of the game by watching. Do you think little league baseball would be as popular as it is if there was no major league baseball? Football? Basketball?

Most of us here may never reach the pro level, but it is nice to have something to shoot for.
