Don't know rules... They can't read!

I finally figured out why some players don't know the rules.

They can't read! Sad but true...

And if you have ever known someone who can't read, they are quite good at hiding this. They certainly will not advertise it or tell anyone. They are embarrassed by it.

So the problem is getting around this problem for a tournament without embarrassing anyone...

I was thinking that each week, I could teach everybody one or two rules to be sure everyone "understands" them. (Before the tournament starts.) Eventually I would cover all the rules and those who can't read would then learn the rules (BCA).

Suggestions? Comments?

Yes, it's true many can't read and will do anything to keep it a secret. I have taught 3 adults to read through the Limbaugh Method and it is rewarding to see them use those skills.

I think you are on the right track, cover a few each time and they will get them. These non-readers normally have a great memory and that is how some of them hide the fact they can't read. Believe it or not, there are many very successful people who have kept this a secret for many years.
