I set it up as it appears. CB slightly off the 1 ball. Played a very fine cut for good safety as shown here:

I went to the rail, and left the cue behind the one ball. I wonder is there a shot other than saftey?

I've noticed watching the pros, if they do not have a sure shot, they will shoot a safety. I've never seen more safeties played than at a pro tournament (I went to watch in person).
Actually I think there were more safeties played than shots made! It was safety mania!
And when playing amateurs, some will harrass people for playing safeties. So in the past, I was kind of reluctant to play safeties because of this.
But after watching that pro tournament, I learned how important safeties are, and that you can have the majority of your shots be safeties. And you can continue to shoot safeties [fearlessly] until the balls are arranged to your liking! i.e. Refuse to pocket anything until you can runout. Let your opponent break up that cluster for you so you can run out, etc.

Colin ... I don't agree with you Colin because I seriously
doubt you can roll the cue ball that much and so little
on the 1 ball. With as soft as you would hit the 1, you
would be lucky to go half as far with the cue ball.
