How do you screw the 'insert' into the shaft so it is flush or nearly flush with the bottom of the shaft? A tool that grabs the threads but does not ruin them? Same with the pin on the butt. Thanks for any info.

I thread 2 nuts down tightly against each other, about 3/4" down, onto a piece of threaded rod. Then thread the bushing onto the rod, down to the nuts. I then chuck the nonthreaded end into the tailstock. Then just glue it & thread the bushing into the joint end of the shaft. When the bushing is in tight, just back out the threaded rod by hand, nuts & all & let the glue dry. Final step is to either face the bushing flat or trim the shoulder diameter to fit a piloted joint...JER
