Anybody know about this guy? He supposedly won the 1970 Johnston City all around title, by winning the 9-ball event and placing well in the other events. According to the Buddy Hall biography "from Rags to Rifleman", this "kid" was the youngest player to ever win a major tournament at only 16 years of age. Keith Thompson then supposedly went back home and was beaten badly by a "road player", and never played the game again.
I guess that I am fascinated by someone who could play so great in a demanding tournament and end up quiting just because they were beat badly one time. This guy is now 48 years of age. I wonder if he plays at all now? Who knows, maybe he was that guy playing on the table next to you last week? I'd be curious to know anymore stories about Keith, since he was only mentioned briefly in Buddy's book.
Regards,
Doug
