Night Song
Who will know us then
Grey yellow dying,
Singing in the wind;
Not new flesh and skin
Not a serpent's tooth crying.
Who will know us then
We the makers of men,
Now hollow voices prying,
Singing in the wind.
Don't talk of what has been
Our sin is in denying.
Who will know us then
Know what we have been;
Not a distant bird flying
Singing in the wind.
Let night begin
A single voice sighing,
Who will know us then
Singing in the wind.
