I thought this was a neat story:

MY latest addiction started with an otherwise innocent executive pursuit of a way to escape the summer heat on eastern Long Island. I found it in the cool semi-darkness of a Southampton poolroom, and it involved a bottle. Instead of containing whiskey or beer, this particular bottle was 6 inches tall and made of leather, and it served as the centerpiece of an arcane but surprisingly accessible game called bottle pool.

That was both a good story and an introduction to a cool new game I hadn't known about! Thanks!

Thats pretty cool. Get you thinking that the number of different games that can be created around pocket billiards is virtually endless.

SPetty,

I remember many years of playing Bottle Pool. It is a nice way for everyone to enjoy a game regardless of skill level. Thanks for reminding me of this game....

We used to use that bottle to play racehorse, a
variation of pill pool.

Hondo my rememberance of Pill Pool was people having more than one pill and people having extra pills from another set. What some people wouldn't do for a dime.####

You're absolutely right, Dick. Crookedest pool game
I ever saw. Usually a couple of the players were in
cahoots with the guy running the game.

I may have set a record for winning bottle tournaments in the 80's. My bottle of choice then was Bombay blue....but SS doesn't cover that, so it's Gilby's gin now, and my game has suffered. (It's got to be the Gin??)
