View Full Version : Shots using pocket jaws

I'd like to know shots that use pocket jaws. The only one I know comes from the movie "Pool Hall Junkies" (see Dr Dave's article (http://www.engr.colostate.edu/~dga/pool/bd_articles/2004/oct04.pdf), diagram 4). It is pretty easy and may help.
In my pool hall, people say that this kind of trick shot are idiot and never to be used. But I believe it is worth knowing them.

I think there are four or five shown in Byrne's books (along with four or five hundred other shots). I saw one used in play. The cue ball was on the head spot and the required object ball was on the long rail near a foot pocket. There was no good path to hit the ball. The player played the cue ball off the nearer corner of the side pocket and the cue ball went right down that rail to hit the object ball.
There is a remarkable bank that Eddie Taylor showed me that uses the facing of the side pocket to change the bank angle.
For those tough ones stuck on the end of the cushion by the side, easier then it looks.START(
