Removing Slate from a Olhausen

I have a Olhausen table with three slates. Water putty was used to seem the slates and fill the screw holes. Anyone know how I can remove this putty safely from the screw holes to get the screws out and remove the slates from the base?

Raven a small sharp screw driver and a hammer, just hit it softly and the plaster will chip away.

Make sure the screw driver bit fits the screws tight. You don't want to scratch the slates.####

Water will soften up the putty again.
