how to clean sticky grip

Any recommendations for cleaning sticky irish linen? I used my Balabushka by Adam Cues almost daily during the summer of 95 when I had sweaty palms and a tight grip (I was a beginner at the time). After that, maybe used it on average once a month when I had a chance to play. The white linen with green speck has gotten dirty and sticky around the grip area.

Other than having the linen cleaned and pressed, or the wrap replaced, what are some things people do to clean it without it getting wet?

I haven't had this problem yet, but I think I would try a spray on upholstery cleaner like you would use for a car seat or couch. Use either a dry cotton wash cloth or a dry micro fiber towel to wipe it down, then let it dry naturally. Another alternative might be one of the dry-cleaner-in-a-bottle products like Blue Coral Dri Clean.
