Parable of the Ant and the Grasshopper

TRADITIONAL VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the
ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come
winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or
shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

*****MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays

the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the ant should be warm and well fed while others are
cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering
grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a
table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How
can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is
allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the
grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being
Green." Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's
house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall
overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the
grasshopper's sake. Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry & Harry Reid exclaim in an
interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of
the grasshopper, and both call for an imm ediate tax hike on the ant to
make him pay his fair share. Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic
Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the
summer! The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of
green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his
home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to
represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the
case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton
appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses

the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up
the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in,
which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him
because he doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident
and the hou se, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who
terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2008.

It ain't no fairy tale. The grasshoppers next door ask me to fill out their welfare papers for them while they lived in a house I couldn't afford.

Pooltchr that reads almost like George W Bush's insider trading charge. He sold $800,000 of Hakim stock 30 days before it went belly up. Then failed to notify the SEC within the thirty days required by law. Filing that form eight months later.

The people who investigated George were appointed by the senior Bush. No crime was committed if they were appointed by a Democrat GWB would have been guilty of a FELONY and the World wouldn't have had to put up him.####

Well, the right does have the fairy tale market sewn up!

Mission Accomplished. Heck of a job, Browine. Shock and Awe. Slam dunk. Bring 'em on! Last Throes. The smoking gun is a mushroom cloud. Uranium from Africa. As the Iraqis stand up, we'll stand down. They saw the same intelligence that I saw. The United States doesn't torture people. No one ever thought about people flying airplanes into buildings...ah, maybe somewhere down in the bowels of the agency. Just a bunch of dead enders. We're making progress! Aluminum tubes, suitable for... If anyone in my administration was involved...The economy is growing. /ccboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

And another unrelated comment from the peanut gallery...

For those who couldn't figure it out...the original post was a social commentary...It had nothing to do with the war, torture, 9/11, uranium, or aluminum tubes. It was about the direction our society is moving, which is directly toward socialism.

One of our (former?) memebers (cuechick?) had a tagline that said "I can explain it to you, but I can not understand it for you". It actually caused a minor dust-up once when a poster took it personally.

Well, gotta get to work to support the grasshoppers.

No it wasn't. It was about more BS Republican fascist propaganda, portrayed through their usual hogwash mentality.

Pretty funny when the fairy tale party, uses fairy tales to get their fake points across. But then, what can one expect from a bunch of sheep? Bah, Bah, Bah, let's haul out the big bad word again, socialism. More Republican semantics to confuse the real facts. Republicans are penny wise, and pound foolish. Only the wealthy are thriving in this economy. Back to Reaganomics, AGAIN, and another recession. What can one say about people who vote against the interests of their own kids and grand kids? Against their own Constitution, and against the principles of the Americas values that set this country apart from all others. I'm sure your furor would be proud. It will take six months after they fumigate the White House of the sulfer smell, before the real numbers begin to surface, then you can blame it all on the Democrats, and Clinton's BJ.

Pooltchr Hilliary law firm tries a case against judges appointed by Bill. George commits a crime and the Investigators were appointed George the first Pres. Hence no crime.

The problem with these "parables" is when you try to apply them to reality.....and the more naive of the right...like my brother....begin to take them as dogma.
Seems like the real life interpretation is that the Republicans are all good, hard working, salt of the earth, types, while the Democrats are all lazy, shiftless, and have a parasitic dependency on the right...
It makes as much sense as the idea that the guy on whose watch 9/11 occurred, is the only guy that can protect us from terrorist attacks....and the vehicle for this umbrella of protection, is to attack one country out of a region of nations that resent the U.S.
Iran, for one, must be thanking Allah for their good fortune, at having their neighboring enemy weakened at no costs to them.

It takes awhile for the truth to sink in to the "right"...studies have shown that they have to read the same material several times before they begin to comprehend the meaning.
Gayle has amassed some "boilerplate" material, the kind that best points out the facts...and this saves her time in her zeal to educate the ardent, but uninformed, right

When the subjects of the posts I'm responding to are the same old false accusations against democrats, from the same poster, what other option is available?

Take for example, the idea that Bush lied us into this war. That statement doesn't complete the picture. He kept lying, about everything, just as he has continued to overreach and abuse his power, continued to ignore the constitution, continued to break international agreements. We're discussing a president, and a party, which continue to perform the same indiscretions, over and over. Appointing people to high offices, when they are not qualified for the jobs, and hence, perforn poorly. When you're dealing with a stubborn, arrogant, law breaker, who ddoes the same thing, over and over, and posting on a site with righties, who submit the same lies over and over, your response options are limited, IMO. However, you are free to skip my posts, if you like. Unfortunately, you, too, seem to be approaching the same addiction to them as a few others around here. Interesting, and does seem to make my point. Some people make the same mistakes, over and over, particularly when they're Republican.

I will admit that I do enjoy picking at you. I think it's because you are so serious and intense. Don't forget to save some of that intensity for the pool table.

fine, get right in line, but admit, you're addicted. If insulting someone who is serious and concerned about our country, our troops, and our Constitution, gives you a kick, fine, have at it, just own up to the fact that you're insulting me because you don't like my views, not for any other reason. You're insults are just as repetitive as my posts. It isn't about me, it's about our troops.

Gayle's been outranked by that of a Lt. Colonel? Damnation, and here I was buying into her views on Walter Reed, the War, and the soldier's own feelings about the war.
But a Lt. Colonel, stationed in D.C....would be the ultimate authority. She probably gets to read the W.H. press releases even before they are sent out to Fox News.
So Gayle, if you read this...your eyes are playing tricks on you when you visit Walter Reed, your politician friends are lying to you,....and you, like 70% of Americans have it all wrong, our troops are dying to serve over there....How do I know....a little "bird" told me...well not quite a full bird yet, but with loyalty like that...soon will be. And also as King Arthur said in "Camelot" "I have it on good authority"
