This question came up a while back and I could not remember why it was explained that this rule ever came into being. Why should a tip size less than 9mm be of any danger or advantage, making it worthy to rule as illegal???sid

Reason for tip size limits: BCA MULLET HEADs would stab people with cue. Blunt tips discourage stabbing fights. Danger eliminated by rule on tip size. Bill's friend

I have no idea why they would even bother with a lower size limit! I cannot imagine anyone wanting to play pool (not Snooker) with a tip size any smaller than that! It just wouldn't be practical.

But why even set the limit?

I don't know, maybe to avoid eye injuries (a poke in the eye)?
