As hard as I've tried, I couldn't have said this better ...

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Keith Olbermann’s recent hour-long commentary was quite revealing. Like Michael Moore’s “capitalism hasn’t done anything for me” comment, the outpouring of support and sympathy for serial pedophile and admitted rapist Roman Polanski, and President Obama’s shenanigans at the U.N. and G-20, it drove home a simple, powerful point…

These people don’t know what they are talking about.

They do not know their kiesters from a hole in the ground. They are a few fries short of a happy meal and a few cards short of a full deck. Their phasers are permanently set on “clueless.”

Once you come to this realization, as many of us have, you are forced to approach their ideas and spokespeople from a position of reality. Not from some sanctimonious position of civility and “debate.”

For an actual debate, two things are needed. One, there must be a logical and factual distinction between two separate positions. Two, there must be equally matched participants, each one prepared and versed enough to intelligently present their side of the issue.

We don’t have that. We have one group of people who live in a fantasy world, full of twisted facts, backwards logic and wishful thinking. You can’t debate that. There is no factual, honest, or logical way to support their positions. It’s like arguing the best way to take a cross-country trip with a delusional Dungeons and Dragons geek. You want to reroute to avoid traffic on the I-10. He wants to “avoid the realm of the Bugbears.”

The other side of the “debate” isn’t operating in the same reality. They do not operate in reality at all.

Michael Moore has no business lecturing anybody or making any film about “capitalism” because he can’t even define the word. He doesn’t understand what capitalism is!

Moore grew up middle class in Flint, Michigan. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Under a Socialist system, the young Moore would never have been able to grow (and I mean really grow) into the ultra-rich toast of Hollywood who has a net worth in excess of $50 million. The jarring juxtaposition of the bloated, classless Moore, with his mustard stained T-shirt, Midwestern droll, and soiled baseball cap, noshing in swanky Manhattan eateries is a snapshot of Capitalism in action.
There should be no irony in Michael Moore making a film called “Capitalism: A Love Story.” Michael Moore should love Capitalism as much as he loves White Castle slyders.

Similarly, Olbermann’s diatribe was a brave stand against…death? You know, that inevitable thing that happens to all of us. Somehow, he managed to make the leap in logic that government-run health care is some sort of magical insulator protecting us from the Grim Reaper. It doesn’t make sense.

They stopped making sense awhile ago.

Imagine, if you will, a group of people who state that clouds are made of cotton candy. Children love cotton candy. In the sky, there is an unending supply of the sticky treat. To harvest the cotton candy, we must spend billions of taxpayer dollars to create machines that pluck the confection from the heavens. We must do this for the children.

“Ludicrous” states half of the population. Clearly, clouds are not made of cotton candy. In fact, we know exactly what clouds are made of. We also know the exact ingredients in cotton candy. The two are completely unrelated. Recipes and scientific data are presented to prove the case. To build a machine to collect non-existent cotton candy is a waste of money and resources.

The cotton candy cloud advocates respond. Anybody who claims that clouds are made of water vapor must want to hoard the cotton candy. They must benefit from the sales of cotton candy. Having free cotton candy would destroy their merciless pursuit of profits.

Oh, and obviously, they hate children and are probably racist.

This is what we are dealing with.

By acknowledging and accepting these laughable, false and dangerous ideas as simply “the other side” of a logical debate we bestow a validity to them that is unwarranted and ultimately unfair. I scoff at people like David Frum who call for civility and intellectual debate.

Who do we debate? Where are the other intellectuals?

Debating leftists is like debating Charles Manson. It’s crazy talk. When you debate a leftist you never get to debate the policy. You debate their intended outcomes and their perception of who you are. That’s a serious lapse in logical and critical thought.

World peace? An end to poverty? Proper medical care for all? Equal opportunity for all men and women? I agree. Great. Fine. We all want that. Appeasement? Wealth redistribution? Government controlled economy? Pre-occupation with race and gender? Whoa. Wait a second, how does that work? How do those policies equal those results? When has that ever worked?

President Obama is fond of saying “the debate is over.” My question is, when did it really start?

Many on the right are concerned with the “fringe.” They worry that people like Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck turn the discourse into a circus. Have they not been paying attention? Was the decision to elect Obama based on his experience, policy ideas or general grasp of the issues? Or was it based on entertainment and feelings?.

Those who call for the reincarnation of William F. Buckley to do battle with intellectual lightweights like David Shuster and Paul Krugman do not understand the Twitterverse in which we live. They ignore decades of indoctrination through public schools, universities, and Hollywood. Presenting entertaining, emotional, and “relatable” personalities is the only way to convert a populace conditioned to think that conservatives are cold, greedy, and uncreative.
James O’Keefe dressed like Superfly and Hanna Giles in that skirt are more effective than hundreds of Heritage foundation studies.

So I say crank up the Rush Limbaugh, stick Glenn Beck in a cage with some lions and put Sarah Palin on the trapeze. Let the circus begin. I’ll be first in line to buy a ticket.

I know Joe Biden already owns clown shoes</div></div>

Yes, he did. Looks like it could have been taken out of a John Galt speech.

This is why it is so frustrating when trying to have a discussion with some of the members of this board. I try to respond with facts and logic and they call it a personal attack.

But then again, I guess if your world revolves around a fantasy, facts and logic ARE personal attacks.

I gave up attempting to have a rational discussion with the far left on this board as it is simply too much to expect of them.

I am only here because hondo, Q, superstar, wolfie, and a few others kept demanding that if I dared enter this realm of this superior liberal think tank the great gayle would serve me my arse on a platter.

Being that the lot of them cower in abject fear of rational debate, the simple fact that the presence of truth annoys them so is reward enough to keep bringing me back and tossing a few bits at them now and again.

Serving truth up to leftists in this group is like dipping a garlic stake in Holy water and chasing Dracula up and down the corridors with it ... great fun watching them shriek and wet their pants as they run ... knowing they will run to the mods as all good purple shirts do in a gang demanding that all dissent be eliminated.

Well, this is the sort of response I would expect from some of the dems...there is no point in making fun of them.

In any case, one of the things I have always found hardest to believe is that some of them actually believe what they say. Yes, there are the folks like Obama(or whoever is pulling his strings), that understand that this is how to gain control over the country, but I think most are actually caught up in the fantasy.

For instance, nobody makes fun of little kids who believe in Santa Claus. They believe the fantasy because everybody tells them to, and since they get free stuff once a year, they have no reason to doubt the story. Most people grow out of the fantasy, but there is a percentage who never do. We call them democrats.

In my heart I agree with that assessment.

OTOH I have experienced, and watched, the vicious vapid dishonest and vulgar attacks heaped out by Gayle, wolfie, hondo, dick, mikey, and some others here and I have no sympathy for them at all.

They are a group of little Stalins IMHO who deserve no respect because they have shunned it when given and reacted in the most petty, vile, and outlandish means possible.

Now, that's because I have been bad sick the last 2 days and aren't in a very good mood because of it.

In a day or three I'll cut them some slack. Perhaps they will have mended their ways.

How many times have I pointed out where they directly contradict their stated beliefs from day to day and they believe that they are correct both times even though the beliefs directly contradict each other.

It's cool. I'm far more thick skinned than the leftists ... although I do admit to watching them run in circles as if their arses were on fire when they receive a small portion of their venom back in return.

If I haven't told you before ... 30 years ago I was a dyed in the wool Alinskyite dembot like Gayle, with one exception.

I never lost the ability to reason ... hence I was able to figure out that the pantload being dumped on me day after day by my professors was pure unadulterated grade AAA bovine scatology.

I was also a very early member of "GREENPEACE" when it was actually an environmental group. I quit. like many of it's founders and early members, as it turned from an environmental group to a moonbat crazy, anti capitalist, anti American, anti human, nutjob extremist group made up primarily of people who would make Tommy Chong stand out as an intellectual giant like Einstein would stand out in a 5th grade math class.

I learned all the Alinsky tactics way back when, and I can recognize them from a mile away ... and I know the counters. Present the Alinskyite with a question they must but cannot answer ... refuse to defend positions that the moonbats assign to you even though you never made them ... present fact to counter emotion and demand that they defend the positively foolish claims that they make.

This is why they will never engage me ... they have no clue what to do when confronted with logic, fact, and truth.

In any case, you are indeed correct. It is difficult to have a conversation with people who are so obviously intellectually inferior. Most of the times I attempt to use very small words to get my point across, but that doesn't always work.

Honestly, the best explanation for what you people are doing is at the top of the page.

The person I despise the most, is the person who cannot reason, and I am sad to say, most Democrats fall into that category.

Perhaps, when I hear from a Democrat who has read Atlas Shrugged, has actually thought about it, and still maintains their position, I will find a Democrat who actually has something important to say, but I kinda doubt it.

As much as it shames me to admit it, yesterday, was the first time I have ever gotten angry about what somebody on an internet forum has said. That person was gayle with her expressed wishes to change the greatest country in the world to mimic other failed societies.

In any case, you are indeed correct. It is difficult to have a conversation with people who are so obviously intellectually inferior. Most of the times I attempt to use very small words to get my point across, but that doesn't always work.

Perhaps, when I hear from a Democrat who has read Atlas Shrugged, has actually thought about it, and still maintains their position, I will find a Democrat who actually has something important to say, but I kinda doubt it. </div></div>

Quote Kerbourchard:

This is why it is so frustrating when trying to have a discussion with some of the members of this board. I try to respond with facts and logic and they call it a personal attack.

What a friggin hypocrite you are.

I love to read and I have taught literature for 30 years.

Not only are you a hypocrite but a snob also.</div></div>

Not a snob, confident, maybe.

In any case, I changed my mind about not insulting the childish left since they never bother to respond to any post that has any substance.

I had faith you would catch on.

Visiting this forum must be what visiting the Reichstag circa 1930 was like ... a handful of sensible people trying to reason with a handful of fascists.

Hondo,I am familiar with Rand, and believe I once owned, and tried to read Fountainhead, but never finished the book.
I can see why this would be his "Bible" from reading the outline, and it seems the reviewers did not think well of the novel.
"Atlas Shrugged was generally disliked by critics, despite being a popular success. Helen Beal Woodward, reviewing Atlas Shrugged for The Saturday Review, opined that the novel was written with "dazzling virtuosity" but that it was "shot through with hatred."[37] This was echoed by Granville Hicks, writing for The New York Times Book Review, who also stated that the book was "written out of hate."[38] The reviewer for Time magazine asked: "Is it a novel? Is it a nightmare? Is it Superman––in the comic strip or the Nietzschean version?"[39] In the conservative magazine National Review, Whittaker Chambers called Atlas Shrugged "sophomoric" and "remarkably silly," and said it "can be called a novel only by devaluing the term".[40] Chambers argued against the novel's implicit endorsement of atheism, whereby "Randian man, like Marxian man is made the center of a godless world."[41] Chambers also wrote that the implicit message of the novel is akin to Nazism ("To the gas chambers go!")."
Whittaker Chambers contributed to the conservative National Review?????....interesting!!
...her
" Ferris Persuader " might have some appeal to those that want to silence people who don't share their version of a free society.
The world has become much more complex then it was in 1957...and while laissez faire sounds ideal in principle....we would now have just Walmart east and Walmart west to shop in, and BoFa east and west to do our banking in.
I wondered why someone would be referencing so often a book from the 50's...like they hadn't read anything else since?....but then I noticed that the book is now #33 on Amazon.com.
A new group, wanting to experience "emotional repression and self-disowning"

My wife plodded through the book and came away only
mildly impressed.

A fellow teacher had her Early Entrance class read the book once.

Three students hanged themselves halfway through the book.

The reivews were indeed, bad, as I would expect from our 'so-called intellectual elite'. I read it for the first time 8 years ago, and I won't say it changed my life, but it did change the way I thought about myself.

It allowed me to understand that I was not alone in my ideas and beliefs. It allowed me to see just how sniveling and insignificant most of my rivals really were. Anything from a kid in 6th grade who made fun of me because I had already read the text book or the slackers in college who were upset when I killed the curve.

In any case, Rand has always been disdained by the proper critics, and she should be. Those people don't have real jobs. They don't produce anything.

It is said that, after the Bible, Atlas Shrugged, is the most influential book in print. I can believe it.
