America’s mainstream religious denominations used to teach the faithful that they would be rewarded in the afterlife. But over the past generation, a different strain of Christian faith has proliferated—one that promises to make believers rich in the here and now. Known as the prosperity gospel, and claiming tens of millions of adherents, it fosters risk-taking and intense material optimism. It pumped air into the housing bubble. And one year into the worst downturn since the Depression, it’s still going strong.

it looks like an interesting read.....but I thought these men of the cloth just wanted you to "invest" with them, and quoted from the Bible something like.... it would be returned a hundred fold?
Well, maybe in the after life????
I think greed caused the crash....folks should try to be like me

Hey, when I was touring the south last spring, the farther we drove, the more Evangelicals were dominating the cable shows, begging for money, and promising nervana to the sheep!

It was truly the picture of scam artists on parade! Snake oil at it's worst!

Some years back, there was this lunatic on the radio, on Sat. Nites, that preached "fire & brimstone". I'd normally be driving back from Reno, and tuned in because it helped pass the time.
One time he announced a planned "revival" ...I forget his name for it, but it would take place in the Bay Area....and he asked for donations to finance this.
Despite his pleas over the next few weeks....few donated. The result was, and wished that I had it on tape....he then announced angerly that he was canceling the "big tent sale?"...AND we were all now doomed, as Satan would reign and God would punish us...
I guess he moved back to the Carolinas

If God (ie the luv of God) makes u rich or makes u poor -- what iz left for Satan or the Devil to do ??????????????
How can Satan'or'Devil lead u astray -- how can they lead u away from God -- how can they lead u to Hell ?????????????
How might Satan'or'Devil uze prosperity to hurt u ?????????????
Perhaps one way might be to trap u into spending hours each day glued to a computer screen watching your money ???????????

I am definitely not a fan of preaching prosperity only. There is one Preacher out there, don't remember his name but he actually tells his congregation that God wants his people to be rich and they should all drive BMW's and Mercedes. This guy is as kooky as Obama's pastor.

Edit: I think his name is Creflo Dollar.

You may be referring to Joel Osteen? Here's a lesser known guy that comes on a little stronger with the "God wants you to be rich" message. If God really wanted us to be rich, why did he allow the Bernie Madoff's and Ken Lay's to rip us off?

There is little doubt that The Moron in the WH caused the crash and pointing a finger at good Christians is yet another example of diversion away from the guilty.

Is that the guy that was holding the "revival" in Lakeland a year or so ago? If so, that man was literally "punching" those who came up to get healed. He was insane.

Nope, not referring to Joel. Actually I think Joel is one of the few prosperity preachers I can deal with. His wife is a bit whacko though. My problem with him is that he waters his sermons down so much that he almost forgets to mention the Bible or God. He is more a motivational speaker of which 16,000 people show up every Sunday to watch live.

Here is the worst of the worst. Richard Scrushy (http://www.morningviewpoint.com/)
He bribed black ministers, donated money to black churhes and started this religious T.V. show, all in hopes of affecting the jury pool for his fraud trial involving HealthSouth. And it worked, he got off after stealing millions from stockholders and employees. Fortunately he didn't get away with bribing Gov. Don Siegleman and they are both in prison.

Excuse me? When exactly did Christianity get sworn into office?

There is no doubt that excess debt brought on by excess spending by both the private and public sector precipitated the crash and The Moron is following that same pattern and expecting different results. It is The Moron and his fellow statists, including GW, that caused the crash.

This crash is not over by a long shot and parroting the list of 'green shoots' only demonstrates how little you and your leftist friends understand basic economics. I know the Left is intentionally destroying capitalism but what they don't know is that their replacement will make slaves of us all. Not a very smart move.

Or, if u hav a system where they do cause a crash, then that system stinx.
That iz basik economix.

I would have to disagree with you on your definition of basic economics. Too much debt and too much spending is bound to cause a crash in any system. In fact, I can't think of any surer method of causing a crash. Our system does stink because it fosters too much debt and too much spending, underwritten in large part by our government unconstrained by the Constitution, common sense or anything else.

I reckon that it iz impossible to hav too much debt and too much spending -- at least at the local level -- too much international debt (imports), yes, but at the local level, no.
How can u ever hav too much debt and spending at a local level ??????????????????????

My theory is it isn't Christianity itself that caused the crash,as if one lets the basic tenets of Christianity guide their lives, they will be fine people...it's greedy Christians, the ones that place the U.S. dollar on par, with those guidelines....and right now the Dollar is on par, only with the Mexican Peso, and the Peso Argentina.
Tiger is 10 under par, and sharing the lead with two Aussies, with another...Percy Cameron only 2 back, going into the final round.
I'm praying for Tiger, and offered up today's non-attendance at Mass to help in my plea.
Do guys named Percy, win Golf tournaments? Do Australians ever win golf tournaments?

Mac, you had me worried about Kingston Heath, and the JBWere Masters tournament.
I'm home, starting to watch the finals, and ready to enjoy the event; mixed me up some Viagra and tonic, and poured myself a stiff one, er,that was gin and tonic and I just imagined the other part.
Anyway, drink in hand, and the tournament now playing and, and ....the *&%$#!!^ doorbell rings, and it's my friends over to share my gin. they live, like 5 miles away, on a hill at the 900 ft level, and I think the odor wafts up there whenever I open a bottle.
Needless to say, I then just caught the final score, which made it about as exciting as them Cricket matches I used to watch over there in the colony.
A 100 RBI's over here is a great season for a pro Baseball player, but 100 rbi's in one's turn at bat....it somehow loses it's appeal
Anyway,El Tigre won!!!, and Lord knows he needs the $$$$
Tiger may be good, but he wouldn't have a chance against Jeanne Carmen. She was acquainted with the 3 biggest Hollywood stars ever:
Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and Mo Howard; Also tied in with the mob, and a very, very.... close friend of Marlyn Monroe
She made $$$ doing trick shots...I once knew a gal did something similar, she made $$$ doing tricks...

You're probably wondering what this all has to do with Christianity....and so iz I

Now, where were we, Christianity and the crash, hmmmmmmmmm.....
