As I told you guys, I got the Verizon Wireless package for my puter and have bene very happy with it. Today they called and said I am almost up against my limit on downloads, 5Gig, and I ma less than halfway through the month! Well, it seems DeeWoman playing games on it while I am at work is causing all the usage. Anyway, I guess I'll cancel and sign up with a service that is unlimited but, deep in the heart of Dixie, there may be no other service that reaches the deep woods.
Anyway, aside from that the service was great, I was able to brouse prono (for reseasch purposes) while she was in the Casino investing and have so far, never not been able to get a connection. Why is life so complex? Why so unfair? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
Anyone else run out of gig's this way?
12-04-2009, 04:04 PM
Unfortunately these days 5 gigs ain't much. Don't really understand why they'd offer a plan with only that amount (OK, take that back... I know EXACTLY why).
Go unlimited, and enjoy your "research". I've got my Masters (he he) in that area, so let me know if ya need some guidance /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I do need your help. After I return my Verizon USB thingy nect week, I'll be on the hunt for something that reaches the Brantley
outskirts (did you notice we won the state football championships for those kids not on human growth hormone?).
Let me know if you have any ideas. Most of the wireless maps outsdie Verizon don't show a very good coverage or 36009! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
Later, I hope we can see each other over the holidays. I am not going to Derby City this year so I'll be wandering around aimlessly for a couple of months. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'll have to look into it some... Verizon is the only one I know for sure that reaches well. I know AT&T is working hard at it, but not sure what their actual range is at the moment.
As far as football, the only real HS game that matters happens in a few hours... with my Prattville boys eying a four-peat tonight against Hoover in 6A. Hope we get it now, as I'm not exactly sold on Dubose's direction with the program since Clark left.
And yeah, I'll be around. Slowly getting myself back out shooting the last few weeks. Get a break from school after next week, and a friend is bringing me out of retirement to join her newly formed Friday night team (the things we'll do for cute girls, huh?). So I'll be needing a few good tune ups while trying to find my stroke yet again. So just let me know anytime you wanna head this way, or I can ride up your way sometime too!

I know about your Prattville boys, I don't expect them to struggle much and plan to check them out on Channel 12 tonight. They are one hell of a team.
I appreciate your checking out the internet stuff when you can. I'll give you a call if I get free.

You guys actually get High School football on television??????????????
12-04-2009, 05:21 PM
Indeed we do Steve. It's big time here. Actually Prattville was NATIONALLY televised twice this season.
We get a little serious 'round these parts /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

We have one of the biggst games of the season tonight between Butler and Independence. It gets pretty serious around here too. Independence had the longest winning streak in the country(5 years) until last year when Butler beat them. The used to have a guy at QB at Independence named Chris Leake you might have heard of. But do you think anybody puts it on television? Not a chance! Gotta wait until 11:30 tonight for the highlights on Friday night Frenzy!
There are times when small town living has advantages over living in the city! Enjoy!

Well, Hover is the "rich kids" of Alabama schools... and methinks the refs made a nice payday off of them last night!
In all honesty, we didn't play up to the standards of what "we" are supposed to. But there were two MAJOR blown calls that were just obvious (even Hoover folks admitted to how errant the calls were).
Our boys got down big early, and fought back hard, but just couldn't complete the comeback. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
So guess I'll just owe Deeman a chestbump for Brantley's great season this year /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Prattville was robbed by at least three horible calls. I thought their coach, however, shows a lot of class in the post game interview. Clearly the refs dedermined the outcome which os a shame.
I am neutral in this but it was not fair to the Lions.
I have never bothered with a cell carriers data plan other than for my iPhone which is unlimited. You also have the option of going with satellite high speed. I believe Hughes is a big player in the satellite high speed.
Check out this site for some info... http://www.high-speed-internet-access-guide.com/
HughesNet and DirecTV are the ones that I have heard of the most.

I may try them but have heard they are very slow. I am also looking at a DSL line at the house. If i had that, the Verizon might be a good back-up but as I said, 5gig is not much when you download a lot of music and the wife plays games 8 hours a day! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
I hear ya. Once you start getting into multimedia your bandwidth goes through the roof. I use DSL at the house and don't have any problems. The cheap plan that I have is not as fast as the cheap plan on cable but it does the job.
One thing you should definitely check is if your area has Verizon FIOS. That is blazing fast. In the US I think the best is upwards of 50 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up which easily eclipses anything else on the market. It was not terribly expensive either from what I recall.

I've never been big on satellite internet service. I used to sell it retail many years ago, and it stunk back then. And it was a bunch of crappy third party outfits that did all installations and services for it. I finally got to the point where I refused to sell it for the place I worked for.
It may have gotten better since then (this was about ten years ago). But the experiences I had at that time were enough to turn me off of it.

Deeman, you may be interested to know uproar has still been growing since the game last friday. I mean, it's crazy! Groups have been popping up, folks from around the state that watched are siding with the opinion of P'ville really winning that game.
A friend is a local broadcaster, and has even had a few calls from some folks from AHSAA saying similar things (they, of course, won't go public). It has even come out that one of the officials was suspended all of last season for (wait for it) biased calls!
This thing ain't over. I have a hard time believing anything will be changed about it... but also have it on some pretty good authority that something big is about to happen due to all of the outcry. I don't know if we're talking a replaying of the game, a split title, or what... but apparently this didn't end when the clock hit all zeroes.
Yes people... it's that serious down here!
I just spoke with a guy here at work that lives out in the middle of nowhere in Texas and he uses HughesNet and says they are incredibly slow. I retrack my recommendation as an option. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif If you can get DSL that may be your best bet. Is cable not an option for you, I cannot remember.
I just talked with a guy here at work and he said his satellite service is ridiculously slow.

We've got all that too...but TWC doesn't broadcast local high school football. I don't know why, since we can sell out a 6000 seat high school stadium in an hour, and actually have to move many games to a much larger municipal stadium to accomidate the crowds.
BTW...we even have indoor plumbing here!
