water on table

i have an older brunswick 8 ' 3 pc slate pool table.the felt is original.advice from a friend says to douse with water to clean up chalk dust and suppoedly this will help tighten the cloth.has anyone tried this? he says to take a pretty wet cloth and wipe down the felt and this will cleanup excess chalk and dust on the table and it also helps to remove any divots left by the head ball when racking .Wondering if he knows what he's talking about? anyone heard of this idea?

Well you dont douse it with water, you go over it with a damp rag. Start from the short rail side you break from, and go in one direction(the long way).

If you arent comfortable with using water, you can buy some chalk off....works pretty good.
